So im driving on the freeway, and I start hearing a little ping in the engine. No big deal, maybe the valves need adjusting. ping starts getting louder, and suddenly lots more noise and power loss. It sounded horrible. Pulled over as soon as I had a chance, check the dipstick, and sure enough there are little sparkles in the oil. So now its time for a transplant, and I would really like to get it done before the next semester of school starts. That gives me four weeks. So Anyone have suggestions on where I can source a d16a1 engine, trans, axels, knuckle/hub assembly, and shift linkage? im guessing my best bet is to just buy a whole car.

Really sorry to hear this Kevin. Your car is so nice too. Didn't you just get it complete?

I know all too well how you must feel, with the aggravation that comes with a busted engine.

Dude, you can't go wrong with buying an engine from JDM Engine Zone. That's where I got mine, and believe me, the black top ZC is sweeeet! Especially for what you pay. Everything else you'll need to complete the swap, a junk yard Integra should pretty much get you there.

Check them out!

Rinnaye knows what he is talking about!

The only thing I would suggest is considering a B-series swap. The B-series is well supported in the aftermarket so it will be easier to find performance parts for it going into the future.

Rinnaye, how did you get the jdm engine through the referee? From what I understand, they will not approve an engine if they see zc stamped on it. And yes it was rebuilt recently, except for the block. The pistons and cylinder walls looks to be in ok shape so I didnt even mess with it, and well I should have rebuilt the bottom end too.
And scott, I would love a b series, but its simply out of my price range at this time.

Damn that sucks.. As far as cost effectiveness I guess a d16a1 would be good.. No sohc d-series temptations?

I heard that same thing about the Ref not approving ZC engines, but sure as heck, I took my car to him just a month ago, and I told him I had a ZC, then he told me to beat it. I think he overlooked the ZC because he'd already approved it with the D16 only a few months earlier. Perhaps it is true that they don't generally approve ZC engines, but how are they really going to see any difference, it's not like the letters are big, and blazed all across the front end of the engine. Just tell em it's a D16, and let them do their thing. They look identical. I also have a really cool Ref. He got a Christmas card with a little something extra in it from me this year. dry.gif

Well I found an engine i think. I was browsing junk yards for a good d16a1 swap. Everything I found was either automatic, high mileage or raped by pickers. Then I stumbled upon a 2wd wagovan. it only has 120,000 miles on it so I think I'll end up just replacing my engine with another EW. Should only cost about $200 for the engine.

So you gonna shove a Carb'd engine in there?

Not sure if they still have them, but I got a EW short block for $250 + $90 shipping from http://www.jisengine.com/. Then all the internals are rebuilt. It worked well for me. Check my project link.

well I was thinking to use the block and head from the carbed engine and then swap over all the other bits from the FI engine like the cam, intake manifold and distributer. The DX supposedly has higher compression anyways so im hoping this will work.

*edit* I just realized that I would have to deal with cvcc... so I suppose I didn't find an engine after all =(

Buy my engine. I'll even cut you a discount! Still have to deal with shipping though.

What engine do you have for sale? miles? modifications? what was it in before? I looked in the fs section and didn't see anything under your name.
