EJ25-7 Build

Hello all. I’ve decided to post my build here instead of my Subaru forum because I feel RPR is super awesome. I know this is not a 1g3g but I know some will enjoy something different.

A little history on the car. It’s a 2004 Subaru WRX STi with 55k. The previous owner was a dumbazz haha.. long story. Well I recently checked the compression and found that cylinder 4 was a little low. Not mad at all, just an excuse to build the motor! Wife approved!

I’m not going crazy on it but I’d really like to see a low 11s high 10s out of it when I’m done. I still haven’t decided on my turbo or fuel set-up.

Motor:
EJ257- Low mileage 6K block halves (cracked ring glands)
08+ STi Nitride enhanced crank
Eagle H-beam Rods
CP/Carillo Pistons & Wrist Pins/Rings (99.5mm)
ACL Race Bearings (rod and main)
OEM Full Gasket set
ARP Head Stud Set
GMS Thermostat
Samco Radiator Hoses
Gates Racing Timing Belt
Gates Water Pump
09+ STi 11mm Oil Pump

Heads:
EJ257- Stock heads
Brian Crower Stage 3 Cams
Brian Crower Spring and Titanium Retainers
New keepers
SuperTech Bronze Valve Guides
Crazy Valve Job

Extras:
Tumbler Deletes (removed fins and ported)
Prosport STi matched Boost, EGT, Oil
GMS Turbo Inlet
Honda Bond
Assembly Lube
Air Spencer

Mods: (already installed)
APS DR550 Front Mount
APS 65mm Cold Air Intake
ASP 3” Turbo Back Exhaust
Wrapped DC Header/manifold
DC uppipe

Visual:
Removed Wing -Done
WRX Hood (needs paint) –Done

Day log:
2/13/2011: Started to remove engine
3/2/2011: Took heads to machine shop
3/16/2011: Received Heads from machine shop
3/26/2011: Received Wrong wrist pins…still waiting

The day I bought it. Oh how ugly it was.

The motor when I got it. FIRST change? That STUPID BOV!! BOV is gone.. but engine bay needs a good cleaning.

Someone stole the MOTOR!

Staging area.

Heads fresh from the machine shop.

Shortblock

As it sits with no heart.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for looking. ph34r.gif

"I’m not going crazy on it..."

Haha! That's a lot more "crazy" than my WRX engine build! Over Christmas I fixed my '03 WRX engine which had suffered a thermonuclear meltdown... I got the shop to build it up with a 2.5L block, forged pistons, ACL race bearings, and head studs. Everything else internal is stock, and I still have the 2.0L heads. I'm sure you're going to love it if it works out!

I wish you were closer...I'm now casually in the market for stock STI turbo back exhaust, turbo, TMIC...

Good luck!
Bill

Also, 11-10 second quarter mile. On a street car I assume? No, not crazy at all.

This time should be easy with the turbo, fuel and meth setup I'm thinking of. Forgot to add so people don't go crazy on me. This is NOT a daily. Streetable car yes. (legal?-mostly). Mostly a track and special occasion car.

Big turbo yes. Built trans no. The sti 6 speed is much much stronger than the wrx 5 speed. When people talk about subarus having "glass transmissions" they are mistaken and are normally talking about the pre 09 wrx 5 speeds.

But if I end up needing one I'll put one in.

Still waiting on wrist pins. Luckily I measured the wrist pins before installing them. Supposed to receive 23mm but I got 22mm. The correct clearance is .001 just think about the noise if I had used the 22mms. That's close to .004

What turbo are you going with? What was the old one? VF39? Is it still good? Wanna sell it?

I have a stage 2 ej255 and I'm looking to upgrade the turbo next. Can't decide what I want.

Not sure on turbo but I'm considering 35r and dr65.

My current turbo is a vf39. Its not good. Infamous waste gate crack.

Go with the vf48. Is the same as the vf39 but more advanced. Comes on the 08 + sti.

Looks like your build is progressing nicely. Thanks again for the advice when I was looking at the FXT- I'm now the newest member of the RPR - Subi club!

Thanks.

Didn't get to work on it saturday but I had a blast at the free concerts in downtown for the final four!

Anyway today 4/3/11 put the timing belt and everything else on the motor. Stabbed it in the car. Talk about the hardest thing to do so far. I pulled it by myself in an hour and half but.... With the wife and my step dad helping it took 6 hours. -(don't tell them it was my fault I put the motor mounts on backwards) all fixed now.

Still in need of a few parts before I can fire it up.
Oil
Crank sensor (sold it with the oil pump dummy)
Evap emissions solenoid (wrench bombed it and broke vacuum nipple)
Air filter
