Today, I Am A Man! 56k, Go Fall On Something Sharp

12 August 2008 - 12:24 AM

This is a copy and paste from g1teg.org. Please excuse my spelling/typing errors.

There are a lot of pics...I didnt even show ALL of them. I just wanted to share my joy...esp since i faield sooo many times...I finally got it right! And maybe this can help someone else too.

For some background, and to laugh at my n00bness, check out the original thread here:
http://www.g1teg.org...?...p;sk=t&sd=a

Well, here is my 100% kablammyman approved engine. I dont trust machine shops anymore, and theres no need to now...well, i cant bore out a block alone, and im not ready to do a DIY hone job...but you get what I'm saying.

As you may know, i had a problem with a rebuilt engine. So, what was the problem? Scroed bearings, AND a rear main seal that wasnt properly installed (hence the "lazy" starter). The rear main seal was not pushed in all the way, so the flywheel rubbed on it, slwing it down...and keeping it from starting. It also made a lot of blue eraser bits all over the place. :x Argh!

Anyway, i redid it all myself...like a man should. Now that the shit runs, I am a man. 8) I learned a shit ton, and I need to thank Andrew aka 8689tegs for putting up with all my questions and pictures asking for help. I learned about several test during the tear down and rebuild process, like how much tq it should take to rotate an engine durring the differnt phases of the rebuild. Also, how to protect the crank and cylinder walls from knicks when doing work.

I also learned the hard part of rebuilding is tearing down the motor and making measurments. Putting shit back together is "easy" if you stay organized. I used some over the couter moly lube for the arp stuff, and a combo of some autoZone assembly lube and lucas oil stabilizer. I cleaned everythign with mineral spirits, since carb cleaner didnt work as well as i would like. I kept things nice and clean durring the off time with WD40 and a nice garbage bag. I leanred WHY/HOW all these chemicals work and how cool they really are...and that if you take a white paper towel, spray it with WD40, wipe off a clynder wall, (or anything really) the towel should still be white! If not clean that shit, otherwise you too will have scored bearings and/or cylinder walls...and your rings wont seat well.

BTW, Doing shit alone makes you even more manly....or moar stupider! The engine and hoist fell over once, that in turn caused the car to lift off of jack stands, and it put the engine in the bushes! Luckely, it fell very slowly, and i was able to put the car back on jackstands and get the engine out of the bushes without much trouble. laugh.gif Hey, when you gotta do shit in the back yard, shit happens...you can only try to be so safe, but when you live on a hill, and theres dirt alla round you, shit gets unstable. laugh.gif

I also put a hole in my chinese radiator installing the engine. Thank God i have a replacement thats the correct size ready to go.

Also, the car woudnt start at first...becasue teh gas cap was off. That, and im sure i needed to put some "sta-bil" in the gas tank since it sat for months. I also had to re-tune the idle via turboEdit, becsue after a few mins the shit stalled from running pig rich. Once I played with the fuel, it ran great.

Now, I neeed to drain the oil, put hte wheels and shit back on, and drive her hard!

The engine consitsts of:

89 head
browntop ZC cams
87 block bored .020 over
89 rods
nippon racing pistons (stock replacements of the correct bore)
some wierd brand bearings
DSM 450 injectors
MLS head gasket
ARP head studs

Anyway, on to the pics.

Jedi420

23 July 2008 - 03:46 PM

I set up a deal with jedi420 (aka David Wawroski) on March 16th to trade my 87 browntop head that was cleaned, tested, and had a 3 angle valve job from a machine shop, for his 88 used beat up head. I told him how bad I needed the head, and he said he understood since he was in a similar situation.

We emailed twice to make sure that we wanted to go thru with this. After the confirmation, I shipped the head THE NEXT MORNING! I gave him a tracking number, yet he still bitched and moaned because I didn’t over night it (I did 6 day shipping from CA to TX) I also gave him a tracking number. Yet, he still BITCHED wondering if I sent him the head etc. I told him to check the tracking number...it was proof that I sent the head when I said I did.

HOWEVER, he has not help up his end of the bargain. He is not answering my emails or PMs, when all I want is the tracking number. He says that the head was sent back since it started to leak oil, which is understandable, but its been a while since then, he shoulda been able to re-ship the head to and give me a tracking number. If shit comes up, LET ME KNOW!! DO NOT IGNORE ME! A lil communication goes a long way!

Be warned, this guy is shady, and I do not recommend doing any business with him until he can be a man, and keep his word. I shoulda known what I was dealing with when he wasn’t able to check a USPS tracking number, but he was able to bug me, wondering when his head would get there.

UPDATE:

He’s a scammer.

First he wanted a straight up trade...but he never provided me with a head.
Then I said he should just pay for it. WE settled on $150
He told me the head was bad without giving me any proof. He just said the valves were no good. Since I have some issues with my block that was done by the same guy, I just agreed to knock the price to $50
He’s yet to pay me the $50.

At first he said he was gonna so 25 and 25 on paypal. Nothing. He then says "I didn’t get a reply email from you, so I didn’t know what’s up"

so I say "yes, just pay me anyway you can, but its been over a 2 weeks since that last email, so I'm sure you should have a whole $50 by now"

Nothing.

He cant even pay $50...I guess that’s what happens when you trust a guy with 420 in his name (and email) he’s probably a stoner and cant remember shit, or he smokes up all his money...I really believe this is what is going on. I know other guys who have 420s in their titles or talks about that stuff, and they are the same way.

I mean damn, you cant even pay me my $50 after MONTHS of having the head I rushed to him (because of his bitching) c’mon…

I’m not gonna give up tho, He knows he owes me.

So yeah, don’t trust this guy, don’t even help this guy with any issues until he can pay my lil measly $50

New Guy

Hello all,

I had used info from this website before, but never joined. Since I hear a lot of good stuff from this forum (guys get the shakes when this place goes down) I decided to become a member, and maybe contribute some knowledge as well.

Before, I forget, I just wanted to warn everybody about a member here called Jedi420 from Plano TX. Long story short, he is a scammer. He took a rebuilt head for a vac advance d16a1, without any kind of trade (the original agreement) or payment. I would advise anyone to NEVER do business with that guy. He bitched and moaned about getting the head to him quickly, but could not do the same. He has been avoiding my daily emails when I ask him for payment. He is not a man, but a lil coward that doesnt stand up to his respnosibility and makes excuses. have tried to work with him, and changed the deal several times to help HIM OUT, but he still cant do whats right...he doesnt even tell me whats going on. If you are reading this, then do the right thing, and pay me my money!

With that ugliness out of the way, I have a turbo 87 Integra with the electronic advance swap, running a homemade turbo setup wit DSM 450s, turbo Edit and .42/.48 T3. I used to have an HF manifold, but I have made my own turbo manifold, so I will be using that. It was my first manifold, so its pretty ugly. I have no idea how well it will work, since my car is down at the moment. I am in the process of re-rebuilding my engine (the first time the machine shop or I messed something up, so there was binding and the bearings got all scored). I hope to start and finish the rebuild this weekend, cuz I miss my car sooo much.

I used to AutoX a lot, but since I went turbo, that kidna stopped. Why? Well, I had too many issues with boosting but it’s mostly me getting busy with other things AND being a pussy since I will no longer be in STS. tongue.gif

Here are some old pics. I will update the pics when my car is running and has the new turbo manifold.
