Ok so other than the fact that its old as hell, do you think I should buy it?

Its a 1974 mercedes 380C 2.6 liter V6.

The picture below is the same car, but the one for sale is flat black rather than gloss.
The body has no rust. 100,000kms. White leather interior. Bran new tires. Electric windows x 4. Central locking system. Sun roof. Everything works, even the A/C.

$700

No, seriously... Are you in the market for another HUGE project? I can just imagine the pain it will be to find any parts for it. Our cars are bad enough... just my thoughts...

At $700, why not? Key things are the body, trim and convenience features, and it sounds like they're in good condition. The old M-B straight sixes are bulletproof. Parts are surprisingly available, although they may be a bit spendy. If the electric door locks and such acted up you may even be able to retrofit aftermarket hot rod parts.

Former coworker had an equally ancient four-door W114. He always said it was pretty easy to work on.

My brother has one, the stock solex carb on those is crappy but there is a redline/weber kit that works wonders. .. and as I said on FB, buy it!

I am not saying buy it, but if I had the tools, the space, and the know how I would convert it to diesel. Those 70's diesel mercedes ran forever! I don't know what they got for gas mileage, but a light pressure turbo like SAAB used could improve the fuel economy and performance. Look at what VW did with the TDI and the R32 turbo! One of these days I want to buy a 1974 or older Dodge pickup and convert it to a 90's Cummings Turbo Diesel, make a pulling truck out of it. However, upon looking at a project of this magnitude one has to ask how much time they'll allow to be sucked away. All the really cool custom cars either take a really long time to complete by one person or have teams of people to work on them, feel like recruiting your fellow classmates? biggrin.gif

I'm Glad it's sold...now you'll have enough money for a small, bench top 3axis CNC machine so you can make more goodies for us!!!

I've always wanted one, but, the auto-tragic transmissions on MB's /always/ get me... why can't I have a 4 ton hunk of hurdling steel with at least a 4 speed manual backing up its lunacy?

Yeah, they're incredibly rare here. M-B didn't bother trying to sell many in the slushbox-enamored U.S., but folks do bring them in. Last year some dude listed a nice RHD 5-speed '84 W123 wagon on eBay (and posted on BaT), but my wife wasn't quite as enthusiastic about it as I was. "One German wagon is enough, dear." laugh.gif
