After quite a bit of work, I'm in the later stages of dialing in these Mikuni's to get the most power possible out of them on the stock engine.

I just rebuilt the carbs, but am still having what I believe to be two issues: fuel delivery and properly igniting all of the extra fuel provided by the Mukinis.

Thanks to Airgazm's help, I have all of my fuel supply stuff on order, so that should fix the fuel issue.

Now, I just need to properly ignite it. I have done much searching, but haven't found anything yet on the RPR site for our cars.

I bought a set of Nology wires, so I think I'm off to a good start.

I don't really want to dip the money on an SCI box and SS blaster coil unless I have to.

Would just getting an MSD blaster 2 for $45 at Autozone be a powerful upgrade (worth the money), or should I just wait and save the bones for the big-boy, SCI box and SS set-up?

If the Blaster 2 is a good option, which model # are you guys using. I have the 1.5L DX engine, with the coil located just behind the battery.

Thanks in advance!

Being a former owner of nology hotwires, I can't say that I thought they were worthwhile. I had them on a bolt on GSR integra and could tell no difference. I'd just go to a hotter coil and keep the plug gaps to .035 or less with a good set of standard wires. The stock coil does seem a bit wimpier than the coil-in-cap civics. My turbo'd d16 never misfired on the stock ignition if I kept the plug gap down to .028, and that was with 14lbs of boost!

I have a blaster 2 coil. I got it because I wanted a new coil and thought it would go well with the MSD 6AL. I have the coil in use. I haven't seen any difference. But I didn't use the stock one very much anyway. I haven't installed the 6AL yet either. I should, but there is always something else to do. I have read tho, that the 6AL doesn't do much for our motors.

Here's the best pic I have of my blaster 2. (I don't know what part number it is)

a buddy of mine has a turbo-supercharged (YES BOTH) LS VTEC and is running stock ignition. a failing distributor can be a major weak point in a honda, but a good working one will handle 500 hp just fine

i would love to see a dyno comparison between a brand new distrib and coil vs an MSD setup both on a hot motor. i bet the difference is as much as you would get from putting a neuspeed sticker on your bumper

No. All the answers are in the Kakabox build thread.

In my opinion the only reason to upgrade the ignition system is to more accurately control the spark curve. The stock ignition system should be able to provide enough spark to ignite the your air/fuel mixture even with the increased flow from the new intake system. I've run the same intake set up on stock ignition with no problems but am currently running a blaster 2 coil, also noticed no difference.

If you wish to get a fully adjustable ignition system from MSD, you'll be paying for it. The module I recently purchased and hope to run soon was about $600 from a good friend of mine and retails for $1000, and it won't fix an engines running issues at either extremity of air/fuel mixture.

Invest some time into tuning this thing, it will yeild good results.

MSD came out w/the MSD Programmable Digital 6AL-2 Ignition Box. Summit Racing sells it for $369. You can add a map sensor it you want to use it for boosted carb set ups too.

My stock coil failed and the only one I could find on a local shelf was an Accel Super Stack. I read elsewhere I could cut my plugs off, match up the colors, and stick them on the super stack (Black/yellow positive blue negative. Is this what you did or did you originally have this style of ignition coil? Anybody?

I intstalled the Super Stack and my car fired up and ran great. I drove it for a half hour and parked it. Had hell getting it to fire up then when I did it would run great and would shut down(due to spark) It started and died on my twice now wont start. Will coil problems be intermittent? and if not what could cause these coils to fail? Thanks

A MSD 6AL box can never hurt. I have ran them in a few Honda builds before. Their spark plug wires suck though, just run NGK blues.
