Jdm zc questions...

31 July 2002 - 09:17 PM

I was doing some more reading up on the JDM ZC swap for the 1st gen CRX, and just had a couple questions.

I read somewhere that I may have reliabilty problems with a ZC.  Can you guys give me any ideas?

I have been searching the net for pricing, and haven't had that much luck.  Where is a good place to purchase an engine from?  I found both the engine and transmission prived for $899.  Does that sound right?

Now, final question.  Is it worth it?  I know you guys probably get this question a lot, but for a long time I was just going to do bolt-on's my current engine (headers, exhaust, intake).  My 87Si's stock engine has 97,000 miles on it.  I really want to do the swap, if it is worth the power, and I am not expending reliablilty or giving up the availabilty of parts.

Can someone help me through this?

Thanks,
Kirk

Lowering first gen

27 July 2002 - 02:22 PM

I was looking under the car, trying to figure out where this nut is.  I located 2 17mm nuts, and I wasn't sure which one did the lowering.  Here's the one I thought did it.

Now, how much do I have to turn it?  What's a safe amount to lower so I do not bottom out too entirely much.  The roads that I drive on are quite smooth, but there are a few bumby areas.  I was hoping for about a 1 inch drop.  I am going to be getting the rear coilover kit with Koni struts from Groundcontrol.com.

Thanks guys,
Kirk

Crx resource down??

01 July 2002 - 06:35 PM

I get a Forbidden error when I try to go to http://resource.crx.org

Now I remember, in my first post about a ZC swap, RPR told me that Steve doesn't like to hear about this website (I would like to hear more about this... as I don't see why Steve would want to keep us knowledge-hungry first geners away).  Wouldn't it be wierd if he had some script made that would keep you from getting on the resource if you had visited this page.  It seems like I have not been able to gain access ever since I started coming here.   biggrin.gif

Please tell me it's not true.. hehe

Jdm zc swap, questions... (confusion)

23 June 2002 - 11:13 PM

Well, I have been posting on the CRX resource (resource.crx.org) for quite some time, but sometimes I can't find the right info on there.  It's good to see a 1st gen specific site up and runnin.

Anyway, to the point.  I am very interested in doing a ZC swap.  Now, right from the start I am confused, but I think I am getting it a little bit better after hours of research.  I am mostly concerned with making sure I 1) get the corret engine code when I go to order the engine and 2) that I understand what parts I will need to swap with the engine.  Here's what I understand so far... please correct and add if you can.

I am interested in the true JDM spec ZC, offered in the 85-87 Civics I believe.  This engine produces 135hp.  First off, I need to know where I can get such an engine and if they are hard to find.  Does the US spec Integra ZC also make 135 hp?  If so, i that generally a better swap to do?  I am new to this, shoot me in the right direction!!

Secondly, from what I've read I know I need to change a few things to get it to work with everything else.

Mounting:  I will need to obtain new mounts, excpet the drivers side mount (stock will work).  these mounts can also come out of the Integra?

Drivetrain:  I will need to get an 85-87 Integra transmission, and the mounts for this transmission. (see.. I am confused already, cause the engine came out of Civics and I need an Integra transmission.

I will need to replace the clutch to handle the power of course.  Do I find a clutch that would fit an 85-87 Integra then?

The axles will need to be replaced with 85-87 Integra axles as well, correct?  Something else with the axles too, I will need to replace?

Computer related:  I can use my stock 87si ECU, but would be better off obtaining an Integra ECU.

More:  Also, I am interested in rebuilding the engine before I do the swap.  If I get the JDM spec, am I going to be able to find the parts necessary (gaskets, internals, new bolts if needed) easily?  Are these parts the same that came with the U.S. spec Integra?

Most of my questions revolve around the fact that if I am getting the JDM spec ZC, do I have to get JDM spec parts too, or is the engine similar enough to the US spec Integra motor.. that I can use those parts?  I know I sound confused.. and I am... any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Kirk
