im putting a turbo in my car and need a smaller radiator. my brother found one from the 84-87 civics thats half the size( about 14") of one from a si but its not in very good shape. i would like to buy a new one but before i do i would like to make sure what model its from. does anyone know if the smaller radiator is able to cool a turbo b16a? thanks-steve

the small radiator is from 1300cc civic(84-87). capacity is smaller(three tenths of a gallon from the 1500cc civic) but you could ask a radiator shop if they sell one with a thicker core to compensate. chapter 10 page 2-7 covers the cooling system. check the online helms manual for further details.
the stock cooling fan is probably not up to the job of removing heat after hard runs/ lots of boosted stop and go driving. you may need to look into a Spal fan(high cfm electric). Racerpartswholesale.com sells them, around $150 US, they are a little loud but work very well. cooling will also be affected(ahh more heat) if your turbo uses a water cooled center section.

Most decent radiator shops can take the one you have and put a new core in it that is twice as thick. I have done that on a couple cars. Still I agree that the fan needs an upgrade as well.

I used that same radiator with stock fan on a boosted EW with great results, and I do live in Las Vegas (120 degrees in the shade)
