So a few months back I came on here to get some help with my car. I am pretty much in way over my head with this problem.

So stock 1.5 L 12 valve pgmfi engine ew3.
I did a full rebuild on the engine myself.
The car has 168,000 miles, I have done a lot a of work to the engine some of the stuff was because I could never get the idle to behave on this car. The IACV was replaced once before then the copper adjustment screw stopped working so what I did is completely block off the IACV, I used the idle stop screw on the throttle body to bump the idle up to about 1100.
Now the main problem I have been having is that the car bogs when going up to 3000 rpms then the engine kicks in all the sudden. I changed the coolant temp sensor that talks to the ECU. Upon replacing the plug I noticed that the wires gang to the plug where pretty frayed and of course they did break off of the plug...where u ask right at the plug no wire to splice to. So I proceeded to de pin the plug and managed to break one of the pins for the plug. So I fashioned up a pin out of a spade connector....actually came out pretty good, it seems to be making a good connection. But for some reason the gauge in the car just climbs all the way up when u go to drive now the fan does run, I only have one fan, I removed all the ac components from the car including the secondary fan.
Now another thing I attempted to turn the idle down to right about 1000 rpms and when I was like revving to back.....you know like on and off the gas a little bit and the rpms dropped suddenly to zero and the car about stalled.... I just don't get it.

Please help me if u can I will be watching this post so add any details if people post there help.

Lots of stuff going on in this post.

First off, did you bleed the air out of the coolant? Bubbles in the coolant will cause surging idle.

Your coolant guage spike is caused by a short to ground. Make sure the wire is not pinched.

I know this is boring but double check that your cam timing and ignition timing are correct.

I had the same problem after my rebuild. First check the timing with a timing light. Check the label under the hood to find the degree. My 87 crx is 16 degrees plus or minus 2. This is what you set your timing light at. Also, check the condition of your spark plugs and verify the gap on each. The bogging on mine came from a bad oxygen sensor. Change it use the Bosch with the connector. The oxygen sensor may have went out on you due to a clogged CAT. Converter. You may want to check the inlet and out temp using a infrared temp gun. Idling problem is your Idle control valve. Remove it and clean. Take needle valve out and clean. Use brake or throttle cleaner, also take the top cover to the idle control valve off, ensure the large bellow nut is tight.
