is it really that much of a problem? i mean mine never turned on b4 the new engine and that became a HUGE problem.

Does the fan run even when the ignition is turned off? Or does it simply run when as soon as the ignition is turned on?
It shouldn't be too much of an issue, unless your car is running on the cool side. I purposefully wired both fans on my DSM to run with the ignition to help keep things cool.

mine runs with the ignition turned on. i will just keep the fan plugged in to run all the time. i had to get my car towed home from work b/c for some crazy reason it will not start so this is my new problem. thanks

Cant wait to diagnose this one
The only thing i could think of about your fan is that the sensor is shot or there is a short in the wire somewhere.

My 87 Si is doing the same thing, I ordered a new temp controlled fan switch and I'll be installing it this week. Having the fan running all the time can be a pain in the ass in the winter, just enough heat to blow luke warm air through the heater. My temp gauge stays at less than 1/4 all the time because of this.

Thermo switch may have failed at the bottom of the radiator or you have a short to ground before the termo switch.

it could also be (in my case) the temp sensor in the block...its under the IM like in the missle of the block...

my car runs cool most of the time without the fan ever coming on, i know this is b/c of no header panel, but i know once i get a new panel it will start to heat up especially in the summer. i think my temp. sensor is all screwed up, will change that then take it from there.

The only thing that turns the rad fan on is the thermocouple in the bottom of the rad. Unless of course it has been bypassed and isn't even connected. Has it been doing this since you got the car or only recently? JS

that would be a code 6 on the ecu...is the "pgm-fi" light on the dash while car is running?
