HELP!! My entire exhaust system just fell off about 6 inches after the flange from the catalytic converter.

Searchine up and down the intar-web has produced ZERO results. There's a ton of stuff for the CRX, but nothing for the hatch. I suppose I could buy a cheap CRX system and have a muffler shop just weld in an extension to fit the hatch.

Speaking of muffler shops, Midas just quoted me $215!!! to fix my exhaust problem. That's a damn third of what I paid for the car!!! There had GOT to be a less expensive solution out there.

If anyone knows a better solution, PLEASE PLEASE help me out. The D15A3 is LOUD and it broke off just under the seats. On the upside, I do get automatic ass vibrators laugh.gif

TD

Also, can anyone recommend a cheap high-flow cat I can replace mine with. Might as well kill two bird with one stone.

I would try and find a local muffler shop... Midas would be way too expensive since it is a chain.. I got my 2.25" exhaust done at a local muffler shop for around $100 with a muffler and tip here in Los Angeles.. It was crush bent but it works just fine for me.. My next exhaust will be way nicer and have a new muffler but I will keep my Greddy muffler (old black muffler) for posterity... wink.gif

Not according to Pacesetter/Monza. Which seems to be the only company I can find that make an exhaust for the CRX Si from 86-87. When I called them, they said the exhaust was too short.

See Here for Monza exhaust listing

I figure I could just have a local muffler shop cut the pipe somewhere in the middle and add an extension where it was too short. That way I can preserve the flanged connections.

But for 200 bones....I'd like to find something cheaper. I'd also like to investigate a high-flow cat. At some point, I'll need to have my car's emission checked and I'm pretty sure I'm still running the factory cat with 190000 miles blink.gif

Oh well, the search continues. I wish there were a local U-pull, then I could walk-in and just find my own exhuast for cheap. Maybe I'll investigate the local muffler shop idea......

I'll keep you posted

so the muffler from a 1g CRX wont hold up on a civic?

it would be a decent temp fox for a few months or so wouldnt it?

I don't know about the muffler specifically, but I've been told the entire exhaust system is too short (according to the Monza rep).

If I could find a decent price a Monza exhaust for the CRX, I'd pick it up and try to mod it to fit the hatch.

Aside from the middle section length, I believe the Civic and CRX rear section is identical. I haven't confirmed it though. You SHOULD be able to lengthen it like you said.

i think i may have been a bit off topic on my previous post. i was talking about stock mufflers not exhaust or aftermarket, i already knew by common sence that the CRX exhaust was too short.

but anyways, whats the price on this muffler and will it work for F/I?

Okay, sorry to not have been following the thread, but here are the facts:

The civic and CRX exhaust systems are the same and different. Up to 87, all civic centerpipes were the same, and all CRX centerpipes were the same. The difference between the two lies in wheelbase, and the CRX has a shorter centerpipe. You have to cut and add or remove pipe if you want the centerpipes to fit.

In 87, the Catalitic converter was an OE piece on Civic's and CRX's (this is CDM, mind you) and the centerpipe lenghts changed. There may be discrepancies with what I just said, but the long and short of it is that the Civic Centerpipe is long and the CRX centerpipe is short wink.gif

On the rear end of the system, however, they are identical... sort of. The muffler assembly will bolt perfectly, but the difference lies in hangar location. I put an 87 CRX Si muffler on the Bulldog (86 Civic) and the end mount is the same, while the front mount is not...

Either way the muffler will bolt, and you just have to get creative on the hanging (like mechanics wire ph34r.gif )

Cheers,
Mark
