There is an urban myth floating around about the weight of the USDM 86-87 Si rear spoiler. I know for a fact that it only weighs about 13 pounds. The rear wiper motor and arm weigh about 2 pounds. All together we are talking about 15 pounds total.
While it would be "better" if that extra 15 pounds were not on the car, particularly so high and so far out past the wheel base. But in the great scope of things, it is not too bad.
There are mulitple versions of "factory" and "Mugen" spoilers largely because of EDM regulations. In Europe, all spoilers must be "soft" to reduce injury to pedestrians.
BTW- It is that damn sunroof that weights a lot (in the neighborhood of 40 lbs.), perched way up at the top of the car and killing head room.

We never weighed our Si spoiler when it came off...but the hatch feels like it's a million times lighter without it and the wipermotor! Also the hatch struts work like
a charm now...lol.
Interesting...only 13lbs!!

PS. I've seen a lexan roof solution on a 2G last summer on the Ricesource and posted a
link here... Not only is it lighter, but would give you a removable clear plastic panel!

The sunroof panel is not very heavy, it is the motor/track assembly that is so heavy.

i guess i dont have to worry about the extra weight in the rear. i have no wing, but i would like one if i could find it, and no wiper motor or blade. which sucks. just have all the holes where everything used to be. nothing a little JB weld couldnt cover up

The wing themselves arnt heavy, but when attached to the trunk or hatch it overwhelms the shocks and then you get a not on your head

when i removed the rear wiper motor from my 85 that sucker was heavy, my hatch went up with the quickness after it went by by.
Someone said that it wieghted a total of 35 lbs!
but having it on the back of the car isnt so bad, taking it off will offset the weight fromt eh front of the car.
And yes that sunroof is heave as hell. I took mine out as I am parting mine out and that sucker is heavy. Sad thing is I could almost stand INSIDE my car and take it off. I had it on the back of my shoulders as I took it out. that metal is a very extensive peice of equiptment.
Ive contemplated a fiber glass replacement, but I just need to get the funds and the car to do it on lol. I COULD make it removeable, but that would probably cost ALOT more to get the molding right to seal it.

i took the Si spoiler off, and the wiper... i like it much better without, yeh ive taken my sunroof out too.. way heavy.
on my Si, for the sunroof, its getting a fiberglass replacement... easy to make because i already have the panel, can just spray non-adhesive on and fiberglass over it for a perfect match.

OK...now let me get this straight. 15 lbs is not much.
But......the 5 or 6 pound difference between rear discs and aluminum drums makes you car WAY slower!
OK Scott.....let's be consistent here.

The difference is sprung weight vs. unsprung weight and rotational mass.
Long story short, unsprung weight (your wheels, your brakes, axles, etc.) is very bad.
Rotational mass is equal to inertia. Anything you can do to reduce inertia allows quicker acceleration and decceleration.
Do not get me wrong, If I find a nice red rear hatch without the Si spoiler and wiper arm I would consider swapping it on to my car.
But the rear wiper is a nice feature on dewy mornings and the rear spoiler actually has a function (to eleminate the Kamm Effect).
