I just bought an 86 Civic Si and I'm having a major problem. It starts and idles fine, but when you give it gas it pops and sputters. If lightly press the gas it revs fine. When driving the car it has significant power loss. Tried everything, 02 sensor, swapped entire intakes with a known good one, main relay, lots of other things. any suggestions?

Could be a fuel delivery problem. Maybe a clogged fuel filter. My friend has a 93 hatch and had that problem, it turned out to be a clogged fuel filter. Just a suggestion.

Have you checked the cat to see if it is plugged?
You're Mad!
Well thank God for that, 'cause if I wasn't, this would probably have never worked.

dizzy advance working???
I'm assuming it is, the replacement was off of a running car. Vaccum lines are in good shape. How would i test it?

I had a problem that was difficult to diagnose (car would die after about 2 miles) and took it to the Honda dealer whose computer helped diagnose the problem (temperature sensor) but only after having replaced much more than I needed to (entire ignition system, fuel pump, fuel filter, etc.). They may be of help if you have covered the basics like the ignition and fuel delivery. As a result I have a bunch of relatively expensive spare parts like the ignitor for the same vehicle if you want to trade things out trying to find the problem. Just send me a pm if you think that would be of help to you.

Yeah, but did it cure/help the problem?
