Very helpful.

I have a 87 sedan made in suzuka, but from 4th-6th digit it lists EC4 not EC2 any idea why? Not trying to thread jack. My guess would be just 4Door

If one were to put 1/3g's ion the same nomenclature for comparison purposes to the newer hondas, I'd say that we ought to call our cars EC1/EC2's... at least for reference when dealing with those young whippersnappers with their EGs/ek's/etc

Don't forget the Hondas built in Canada, those built north of the border have VIN's that start with 2HG, and the 11th digit (manufacturing plant) is H -- Alliston Ontario.

So what's the scoop on the 8th digit, more specifically the LX & GL. That's what mine is, but it's an Si.

I have been digging around, and i can't find anything. I did put it in the decoder though.

I have an 86 which has a 3 for the 8th digit as well. If I run it in an online VIN decoder it calls it a "CRX Si".

My car is a Canadian car, it has a 1.5L carb engine, it is factory black and silver 2-tone paint, it also has the Si side skirts etc from the factory and a rear spoiler but no sunroof. It seems to be more inline with the Civic 1500S than anything else, I think - it doesn't currently have any sort of model identification badge though.

Yeah the 8th digit on the vin of the 85 civic 1500S i am interested in is a 3 also, and is a carbed 1500 with a two-tone red/grey paint, NO sunroof, and also has a spoiler. It seems as though they have missed classifying the 1500 S. In the wiki info in here it says the 85 civic si has a 140mph limit on the cluster. First, isn't the 85 civic 1500 an "S" and not an "Si"? Second the mph limit on the cluster says 120mph on the one i am looking at, not 140.

Just to make sure if a 3rd gen civic 1500-S has a tach, rear defogger, rear wiper, and 1500 engine it's a 1500-S.... Right. I need to know this because i want to make sure the civic i am buying is a true "S" model. Even though it has the 1500-S emblem and these things i want to make sure. Maybe I'm paranoid..... blink.gif
