So I do know that Hasport sells B engine mounts for like 700bucks US, is there any other company that sells them? Or are there any custom solutions for bolting in a B series (cheaper)? Also, once you have B mounts does that mean that you can drop in ANY B engine? (obviously keeping in mind the space in the engine bay)
I have my heart set on a ZC swap, but there is something about that Vtec shriek that... well...you know
Also, and this is just for sh*ts and giggles; Is is possible to swap a 1997
2.3L prelude non Vtec into a 1Gen CRX? And I know the anwser will be a series of dolla symbols, but what's actually involved?

As far as I know, the B-series mount kit will allow ANY B series (b16, 17, 18, not sure about 20) to bolt up. Whether there is enough room or not is another question entirely. As for the H22/23, I've heard of it being done, and I've seen pictures of it in a 2G, but not a 1G. You'd have to fab mounts, get a wiring harness, ECU, etc etc etc. And yes, bags of cash. We can get the HASport mounts for the 1G, but they are over $1000 CDN.

Custom fabrication, lots fabrication skills, welding skills, pile of various size metal blanks to work with, time, money, some more money, and access to a machine shop. That is about your only other option other than the mount kit.

I think these were on the board before but everyone just forgot cause they're about a year old at least

but wouldn't a CRVTEC or the new civic sir/rsx motor be a better choice since you're going for something wild?

or you could do what some people do lol. Weld up some of your own mounts. Anyone remember the B16 powered First gen at Speedorama? The one where the guy made his own mounts than were massive and had huge welds and had slicks on that were way to big.
If anyone can tell me somting better than a Weberized ZC I have yet to hear it!

B16a, B18C, and the B17 are all the same physical size blocks, the B18A/B and B20b/z are slightly taller, but only by a measure of around a centimeter, and that's block height, not counting the head, so a VTEC head on a non-vtec block wouldn't be all that much harder to fit in, although you're talking about around 6cm taller total over a B16a setup. I've seen B16's in a first gen, and I think there's room to fit just about any NA B-series combo that you want. Turbo starts becoming more hack with a B-series.
That said, I've never been a fan of putting B-series in a first gen, the most I would probably ever go with on a street car would be a B16. I'm just not confident in the track width and wheel base enough to shove too much power at the chassis, although a CRVTEC setup would make for one quick track car, twisties or drag.
edit:: I was off on my size guesstimations a bit.

just go with the ZC
why are people so obsessed with the shriek of VTEC anyway?
on a fully prepped race car if you wanna get that shriek.. get a radical cam grind.. VTEC means diddly squat in a prepped-non-streetable race car
if you want VTEC in a street car, get something like a del sol vtec, or EK Si, or DC GS-R

I think you're confused. VTEC lets you run a radical cam grind, while keeping streetability. In all out race cars, VTEC is disabled altogether, but the heads are still desireable because they are designed from the factory to breathe very well at those high RPMs. The original message didn't mention one way or the other as far as street/track goes, but I would still take a B-series in any trim over a ZC [of any configuration] any day of the week, but that's just me.

actuall.. i am not confused i know very well what VTEC does and what it is for.. thats why i qualified that statement by saying "in a purpose built race car." disabling vtec is kinda like not having it isnt it?
and although the B-series heads flow better from the factory.. if you are fully race prepping your vehicle it doesn't mean diddly.. because you are going to modify the ZC head to flow better anyways
a ZC would be a better engine for purpose-built racing than the B-series from a weight standpoint. the B series, however will have a stronger block and has better geometry (R/S ratio and what-not)
if you don't think the ZC has performance potential, look at the IMSA racing integras from the 80s.
those mugen engines were puttin down somewhere in the neighborhood of 200HP, normally aspirated.
the point of my post was basically that i don't understand the point of going through all the trouble of getting a VTEC engine in a car that wasn't designed for it (well i understand the point of engine swaps in the race world)
if its the VTEC shriek you want you may as well get something like a Del Sol VTEC or GS-R as they have it from the factory. no headache involved.
maybe it's just me because i don't obsess over any one chassis over another
i got my g1 CRX as a race car project
i chose the CRX not because i am obsessed over the CRX.. or that i like the CRX more than say, an integra.
i got the CRX because of its WEIGHT and its HANDLING POTENTIAL. its the ideal base for a race car.
the car i want for a daily driver (one of my few current obsessions) is an AE86 corolla GT-S
i had a bone stock 85 SR5 and that car was fun to drive, albeit very underpowered.

Since we're on the topic of which engines are better in our first gens. I'm trying to decide on which engine to go for: the 88-89 D16A1 integra engine with approx. 118hp na (not sure about turbo) or the B series VTEC engines (b16A) from the 90-current Civic Si or the 94-97 Del Sol with approx. 160hp stock.
It'll be a daily driver taken to the track for road racing and autoXing mainly, but I'd like to go draging for some extra fun.
Any advice and/or educated opinions are welcome. Thanks you guys.

a tecnique i learned from my investigation for swaps on my CVCC was to cut out the stock mounting points jockie the enigne into position... install axels to get aligned then install shift linkage for further alighnment have to plates already bolted to the engine mount (cut if needed) and weld in. Seems simple doesnt it ther rear mount is a bit mor difficult i am sure that can bfabbed easily though
