at what point does the power becomes too much to be streetable. outragous horse power might be ok for the drag strip but what about the daily driven car? you shouldnt need wheelie bars to go to the store. what if you've got a heavier 1.8 that can make gobs of power that you can't use? why not go with a smaller, lighter engine that will make more resonable hp that that you can use all of and will be easier on your axles and suspension, not to mention your wallet? whats the breaking point between being very fast and losing traction?

200 does sound good,i think anything above that would be cool with wrinklewalls and wheeliebars, not for the street.

Just a homemade turbo kit on a stock D15A3 engine was perfect for many things....like getting groceries, attempting FTD at the autocross, and sneaking up on Rustangs that think they are fast.......I'm happy with the butt-dyno of about 130-140 Hp I got...but I had bad rings, and a tired engine...but it was still fun to test the limits.....hehe.
Time for a rebuild...after I get a few other projects out of the way.

As the late, great Mark Donahue once said,
"It isn't enough horsepower until you can smoke the tires in all the gears at any speed" or words to that effect...haven't looked at my copy of 'Unfair Advantage' in a while....
And as quoted to me by Steve Sargis (Multi-time national champ and my paddock neighbor at the runoffs....
"I don't consider too much horsepower to be a bad thing"

I agree, too much is pretty impossible to do.
But why the hell are people mentioning wheelie bars when we are talking about Civics and CRX's?!
The day I see a FF car popping a wheelie is the day that I have seen it all....
Cheers,
Mark

The wheelie bars transfer the cars weight onto the frotn wheels to prevent the noseup attitude when the car launches hard, similar to stiffer rear springs. I saw one on TV once, there was an adjustable one, all it does is transfer pressure to the front wheels....

Horsepower wise, as others have said, there's really no limit to how much is too much. Engine build level is another story though.. the thought of CAM2 being a crucial part of me getting back and forth to work and school is a very unappealing thought...

A d16a1 engine only weighs around 50 lbs more than a d15a3 i think. A d16a1 is more than capable of producing 200+ hp. Anything over 300 in a crx is probably too much for street, but other people might have a different opinion on that.

Well, it isn't just power. horse is the major factor, but there are other factors that will help/not help to make a streetable car.
What kind of clutch you use....
What kind of tires you use....
Etc.
I plan on getting 220whp out of my new motor, and it will take some time to get used to that. I am still debaiting on the clutch and street tires. I already have my eyes on some MH 14" slicks for the track.

what is cam 2? as far as clutch and tires i hadn't really thought about it. i would say a high performace all weather radial. and the clutch, definately aftermarket street clutch. what do you guys use?
