D15A2 Rebuild/startup Issues.

30 March 2013 - 03:21 PM

I just rebuilt the engine(piston rings bearings pumps ect) It took me a while to get the timing on and after all my tinkering I got it to fire up. It was purring like a kitten. The float level screw(I beleive) the flush screw on the very top of the carb had a little fuel leaking out of it. So while it was running I ran that screw in a couple turns and my bowl started over flowing and flooding the engine and before I could get it backed out it died. After pulling plugs and drying the cylinders I still couldnt get it to fire back up.

I have pulled the top of the carb and pulled the float needle and everything looks good. I have checked and rechecked timing, I have fire at all cylinders. And even with the fuel line disconnected and plugs dry I cant get it to fire with starting fluid. It has me stumped.(I have tried that technique with my camshaft and distributor in all possible variations. Ignition coil is good, wires and plugs are good)

Another thing, my mechanical fuel pump is putting out 15oz per 60 seconds. My manual says it should be around 6 oz. Is this an issue or will the extra fuel be dispersed accordingly by the carb.

Any help is greatly appreciated
