#36812 Where To Buy Engines?

Posted by hamada on 12 October 2003 - 04:40 AM in 1G CRX

My one prob is I don't have a credit card. Needless to say I don't like having them because they lead to over spending. Is there any generic kind of place I could find an engine? like a junk yard, some sort of of chain I'm unaware of?

If anyone is in St. Louis area, they might be able to help me more. Since it is a rather broad question. Thankyou for all your help.

The forum is up... the forum is down. I don't know what's going on anymore? To the question:

I know the forum FAQs has a list of some online dealers to buy from (Idon't have a credit card), but if I where to look for places around St. Louis to get a 88-89 D16A1? What would I be looking for?

I was thinking maybe the local junk yards but I wasn't sure if that would be a good idea or not? What would I be looking for in a engine seller. How the heck would I find one?

I know these may be a really dumb questions, but I've honestly never shopped for a car engine before. I really appreciate any help you could give.

#30633 Need Some Advice!? Pleeeeeease?

I have no problem with switching out my fuel system (lines, tank, pump) and wiring harness, ecu, and doing the custom wiring to switch to EFI, since I like the fact that the 86 HF has the lighter body (It's a trade off in my opinion). FI is a better choice for me since we've got strict emissions here.

Since the B series swap seems so expensive (but really cool), does anyone know what hp you can get out of a built (intake, exhaust, header, pistons, flywheel, etc.) 88-89 D16A1 w/ turbo on a conservative boost (don't wanna kill my engine) blink.gif ?

I was thinking of going with the equivalent JDM ZC engine with some 130hp, but JDM seems to be more dificult. BUT maybe I'm wrong.

If you guys have any more advice and/or info on these choices or more on the B series please help me out... and thanks bunches for your guys help so far. biggrin.gif

Which engines are better in our first gens huh.gif ? I'm trying to decide on which engine to go for: the 88-89 D16A1 integra engine with approx. 118hp na (not sure about turbo) or the B series VTEC engines (b16A) from the 90-current Civic Si or the 94-97 Del Sol with approx. 160hp stock.

It'll be a daily driver taken to the track for road racing and autoXing mainly, but I'd like to go draging for some extra fun. Is there any other good choices for what I'm wanting to do?

Any advice and/or educated opinions are welcome. Thanks you guys. biggrin.gif

#30254 Simple Suspension/brake Swap Qs

Posted by hamada on 20 July 2003 - 02:32 AM in 1G CRX

This may be a little off topic huh.gif but what engine do you guys recommend for drag racing (b series? turbo on the D16A1?) ? Are there any good choices for both autoX and drag? Is it possible to race a CRX in a circuit race? If so what brakes/suspension, what engine would you guys go with?

I know that's alot of off topic info, but I really need some advice so I can get a good plan for my car before I buy anything. Thanks for being so patient. You guys have been bunches of help so far.

I figure if I'm going to go through all the trouble of switching from carb to FI then I might as well put in an engine made to perform and impress. Sorry in advance if this sounds really stupid... unsure.gif

#30059 Simple Suspension/brake Swap Qs

I looked through the FAQ, but I was just hoping to get more in depth and easier to understand info here (and was wondering if there were any other options). Thanks for the info and advice on the 165/70/13 dacollier1. I think I'll go with the 195/50/15s, I think that's the same set up rpr recommended in the FAQ for street use.

Trying to choose between rear teg disc brakes or my stock aluminum drums, is there any benefit to having a prelude master cylinder and proportioning valve other than the fact that it allows for rear disc brakes? What other systems does it affect?

What do you mean by haveing to adjust the drum brakes ever so often? I'm thinking of doing some autoX when I'm done with my engine swap (D16A1). Is the D16A1 set up more for drag racing or autoX, OR would it work well for both applications?

Thanks for all the help so far you guys. It's nice to find a forum where people aren't rude just because you haven't learned the basics yet. If you have any more sugestions let me know please.

#29901 Simple Suspension/brake Swap Qs

Posted by hamada on 17 July 2003 - 01:32 AM in 1G CRX

Hey everybody (got some really basic questions). I've been told the best first mod for my 86 HF is the front and rear disc brake replacement and new suspension. This is because I'm eventually wanting to put a D16A1 in it. So here are my questions?

What does this represent and are they the correct numbers for my stock tires and rims (Tires/rims: 165/70R13)?

Is it best to just get some 86-89 integra front and rear disc brakes and swap them or is there a better/easier/cheaper way to go?

When they tell me to upgrade my suspion what all does that intail? axles, springs... umm I really don't know all the parts of the suspension? and what car should I swap parts from for it or what aftermarket parts are best?

I'm sorry if these are some really basic questions, but haven't been able to find a good source of info to explain it in simple terms. Please give me any info or advice you have, or if there is a link with this info please let me know. Thanks guys, I'm happy to be a new addition to the forum biggrin.gif
