my zc1 tranny is dead.

i want to swap a s20 tranny from a 94 Civic EG3 in my 3rd gen.

So my question is:

does the EG axles fit in my civic?
are they to short/long?

s20's won't bolt to the engine, the bell housing pattern is completely different

To answer your question: technically, no they won't fit. But you can make them fit. The easiest way to do it is to take your old axles and take the inner CV boot apart and just swap the ends that go into the transmission. This is what I did on my Z6 swap.

for some reason I was thinking you had a d15... my mistake x2.
you might need custom length axle shafts but, yes, it is possible... doesn't seem worth it though and the transmission wont bolt up 100% correct but you seem intent on doing this.

I'd recommend building a jig (of sorts) and/or measurements with the stock transmission in place to make the mount fabrication that much easier.

are you sure you want to use that transmission? IIRC those don't have great gearing

are the axles to long?
I used a tranny from a 95´EG3 thats the shortest oem tranny that used in a Civic here in europe.
In the winter i would build a custom tranny.
thanks.

when you say shortest oem tranny do you mean the gearing? I couldn't really tell you if they are long or w/e since I don't have any stock 3g axles in my possession to compare to the sets of EF and (maybe I have some) EG axles sitting in my garage.

it is very likely that you would HAVE to pay a shop to custom make your axles

All I had to do to swap in my S20 axles was change the ends that go in the transmission on your stock 3rd gen axles. I think rpr did it as well...I know I got the idea from someone around here.

I think that's what I did, it's been so long since I did it. I think the issue with the OP is he needs 5th Gen OUTERS and INNERS. It may be possible to use just the 3G shaft, and replace both ends with 5G ends, but I can't guarantee that it will work.
