I just installed new spark plug wires and Denso Spark Plugs, but I think I put them in wrong. Can someone show me the correct way and order of having them installed. For example: Which cylinder does the first one go into from the top down? My distributor does NOT look like the one on the service manual. Instead the 4 plugs are facing up in a straight vertical position, the service manual shows in a circle of 5! Can someone help me? I may have them wired wrong, might be why my car won't stay on. Right now I have it so that the first one and second one cross, and the third and fourth are in the respective cylinders.

Correction, my distributor does look like the one in the service manual, but I need to know in which order it is suppossed to be in. Its running on the configuration below. Note: My engine is carbed.

1 --> 2nd cylinder

2 --> 1st cylinder

3 --> 3rd cylinder

4 --> 4th cylinder

Also if my wiring is correct then something is wrong. My car will not idle once it is warm. It idles only when its cold. If I let off the accelerator when I am driving it will turn right off. Its not because of my glass pack is it? Maybe a vacuum leak? I don't know. Today I put in new sparks, spark plug wires, Fram air filter, cleaned the carb with carb cleaner spray, and replaced the thermostat. PLEASE HELP!!! I NEED TO FIX IT! SHe is my daily driver and I am tired of having to put it in N at lights so it will stay on.

You did do it one at a time right? If not the vertical 4 post, according to my Haynes manual goes looking from above rear to front; #4,2,3,1. Then the spark plugs from left to right;4,3,2,1. Be sure to put a LITTLE antiseize on the plug threads, don't overtighten, and some dielectric grease around the plug insulators.

Once a woman is introduced to Colonel Angus, she'll settle for nothing less.

ChrisF-Dude's right, 4231 on the cap. Also, most Dx distrubutor caps have the cylender # on the side (facing the battery).

Replaced the thermostat?

Did you make sure to bleed the coolant system by loosening the bleed valve on the goose neck. If there is a build up of air it will some times cause a shitty idle and abnomal heating. Bust out the igniter fluid and spary around your vaccum hoses, if you find a consistant jump in RPM you have found a leak. I have had many many problems with these cars when it comes to leaky vaccum hoses, check and double check every single one. If you can, get a vaccum line pressure checker.
