Some car forums get all weird when politics are mentioned. I want to know if it is OK to talk about the US Presidential election?
Are you happy with whose left in the running? If your candidate is no longer running, do you have a second pick?
Me? I am a pinko, hippie, tree hugging, lefty Progressive (we don't use the "L" word anymore) and my guy is still in the running. He has some skeletons in his closet, (ADM) but he pretty much in line with my beliefs.
I give some props to the man who did time in the Hanoi Hilton for our country, but he is off base on Foreign Policy for my tastes. The bass player is too damn wacky to even consider.
The former Goldwater Girl is my last choice. Too many lies.

I'm stuck between two parties.
I'm generally conservative in my personal beliefs and believe things run better economically when the market takes precedence.
But I hate the present state of health care in America and I don't believe one bit in the war in Iraq. I have too many friends risking their lives in our armed forces for revenge. I think our time of being the "police of the world" is over and we need to take care of our own.
That said, I'm tempted to vote democrat with the hope of a republican house to balance one another.
Just my opinion.

I'm stuck between no parties. What I believe in just ends up making me look stupid when talking politics - separation of church and state, no religious test for public office, the rights of the people not being infringed, habeas corpus, laisez faire, posse commitatus, etc.... you know, the things we were lied to about in high school Civics class - back when they taught it. Which means I won't be voting fascist Republican.
Of the evils remaining, I find Obama to be the least. The guy I thought might have been good at the job (Biden) dropped out after the very first primary. As for what Gov. Bill was thinking - who knows. None of his decisions make any sense if there aren't back room deals and private handshakes happening. If Hillary turned out to be every bit as bad as Bill, I could still live with that compared to W's escapades.
Ron Paul talks a good game as an independent, but even on Republican coat tails he talks it from a long, long way off.
Commence to call me stupid.

I am sure its ok to talk politics here. But why would you want to this is our hobby and to some it is a way to get away from it all I personally hate politics because they are all liars. The fact is economy is in recession country in chaos and current administration still trying to treat us like we are stupid babies who can't be told the truth. Whoever wins is gonna be too busy trying to fix the country to be able to govern it

I'm fiscally conservative, and socially liberal.
.....neither party stands for me.
However, the dangers of social conservatism do not scare me the way the dangers of fiscal liberalism do.
There is no chance of America becoming a facist theocracy, the population at large will not allow it.
There is a huge chance of America becoming a socialist democracy, the dumb masses are starting to gain the majority.
It seems as tho America's motto is quickly becoming "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what you county can take from someone else to give to you."
Remember, Americans, we are a Constitutional Republic. The founding fathers hated, even despised, democracy more than they hated monarchies. The moment the electorate realizes they can vote themselves income increases, the rule of law is replaced by rule of mob.

New Word:
Electile Dysfunction :
The inability to become aroused over any of the choices for President put forth by either party in the 2008 election year.
Personally I have voted only one way for the last 35 years plus. But lately, I am beginning to second guess my choices. My final thoughts are a line fron a Richard Pryor movie, "Vote, None of the Above."
Regards,
Donnie
BTW....Monica Lewinski's ex-Boyfriends Wife for President. NOT.

I think that's what a lot of us are feeling. It's a sort of broccoli problem. Daddy says "Eat it because I said so and I can kick your ass." - Republican approach. Mommy says "Eat it because it's good for you and I love you too much to let you not eat it." - Democrat approach.
Either way you end up staring at a plate of cold broccoli and "I don't like it" is an irrelevant part of the debate.

I believe that this country needs neither obama or hillary as our next president. You may call me a racist, prejudice or anything else you want to but I am all for a white american male to be president. I am a mexican so you can't use the " its because your white" saying. This country was set up by the white person. I believe if people who want a muslim president should move to a muslim country. YOu don't like our country, beliefs in freedom, and freedom itself, than get th F#(% out. This country was built on many different wars to make us who we are. I am not for or against the war. I just believe that if this war needs to continue we need to have sufficient soldiers who can back eachother up. I also have many friends who are infantry soldiers who all believe in the cause of us being there. I'm sorry for the ones who serve who don't want to be there but you enlisted. Yu were not drafted. You must go were you are called. Not just were you want to for a free education. I say either supply our troops with enough back up power and equipment that can keep our troops safe and if not just pull our troops out and bring them all home. But the funny thing is that most of the people who will say bring our troops home will than complain of why we didn't achieve what we went to do. I'm all up for war when its needed. But not for helping countrys who won't help themselves out. We always have to take care of other countrys problems and give them support and billions in money that never gets paid back but we are trillions in debt. Just my .02. For now.
A grown up living with their parents is a loser.

I call BS on Obama. He makes too many promises that cannot be delivered on. Sure, he's cooked up a really great message to appeal to everyone, but get a whiff of reality people.

both Hilary and Obama are planning to raise the capital gains tax to 20% and 28% respectively. This is the most ridiculous concept. Take money away from the only people who have money to invest in american companies and give it away to fat lazy americans who dont want to pull their own weight in life.
These two would be more at home in cold war Russia than here in the USA. I will not vote for these socialists that want to make it all better for all the useless people in this country.
I am also 100% against abortion. It is MURDER plain and simple and I think any arguement against that is pure stupidity. There are plenty of people who are ready and willing to adopt so there is no real good reason for killing an innocent person. Even in the cases of rape and incest I still firmly believe it is murder. Aborting the child in these cases just creates another victim. the ONLY circumstance where abortion is justified is when the mothers life is in danger having the baby.
This is AMERICA, land of the FREE. Not land of the I want to sit on my fat fucking ass and let the real hard working people of america pay to subsidize my life.
I will probably end up voting for McCain, because hes on the verge of winning the rep. nomination.
Id rather vote for Romney, as I think he is the best overall candidate.
You can bet your sweet ass I will vote though, AGAINST those two idiots Hillary and Obama.

On healthcare:
Sure, wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone had access to affordable healthcare? Some say the healthcare systems of other countries work fine for them. Take a good hard look at their 50-70% income taxes! The American economy has done quite well with low income taxes--look at our GDP and stock market growth under the Bush administration.
Whether the healthcare is admistered by a free market system/private companies or the government, you will pay either way. And if the government pays for a centrally controlled system, you will pay even more because it will be less efficient. We need regulation of the current system that has covered Americans for decades.
