in my 87 CRX Si, FI, will that cause it to leak out of the main input shaft?

I finally got my rear main seal, and while they had the trans out, they did a bearing in side the trans and the main input shaft seal...

If my tranny fluid level is too high, will that cause the fluid to leak out of the input shaft seal and down to the bottom of the bell housing?

Nope... and unless you changed your tranny fluid with the car laying on its drivers side door; its actually impossible to over fill the tranny with oil! So that's for sure not your problem...

Fuck... I'm just hoping that the input shaft area isnt warped or anything and can be sealed.

You had the seal replaced? Sounds like you got a crappy install to me... Not much you could do to "warp" that ring to where it wouldn't seal up...

i have seen a couple of your posts recently and i would seriously suggest a new mechanic. maybe you have a bad cv shaft seal and the oil is running down the transmission?

You can overfill the transmission if you fill it using the top bolt on the transmission. You are suppose to fill it using the top bolt and have the side plug out. When fluid starts running out of the side plug then you at the operating level.

Not true, you fill it through the fill plug on the side, the upper of the two plugs, the one that is removed by a 17mm wrench or socket until fluid is running out of the hole you are filling through.

The problem is I have no more money... at all....

It's leaking between the bell housing and the trans case (the area that I have had resealed already) constant drip drip drip drip when it gets hot.... I'm afraid that the case is warped from old age and heat damage.

so in actuallity, its not leaking at the input shaft seal, its leaking between the 2 trans pieces.

Seriously doubt it man... check it out. Get under the car with a 17MM wrench and pop off the bolt that is on the passenger side facing the inside of the wheel. The bolt that is above the drain bolt that simply holds a 3/8 drive socket wrench to knock off... similar to what lawnmowers use to drain their oil as well. If no oil is comming out of the hole where the 17MM bolt was, your tranny is NOT overfilled; its as easy as that. Then, just check out your service manual for step by step instructions on how to remove the tranny yourself and have a look see on the inside. If you have a decnet socket set, and some will power you can do this. I would be willing to bet big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that it was just a crappy seal installation. However, and I think someone already mentioned this, but it really could just be the CV axel seals. If your tranny was removed and re-installed by someone else; it is a GREAT chance that they just ruffed up the already old ass seals on the CV's The oil could be seeping out so slowly that it is running down to where the tranny meets the motor making it look as if the oil is comming from inside the tranny. I have personal experience with this problem, and I actually thought it was the main seal for a while.

didn't you just pay a shop to reseal that? if so, go back to them, and have them warranty their work.

The first thing I am going to have them do, is check the axle seals.

If they are good... well... were yanking the trans out again...

Transmissions must be different on the blacktops. Mine has a fill plug on top that is horizontal and a fill plug on the side that is vertical. You can open them both, then fill through the horizontal one until it flows out the vertical one. Making sure the car is level of course.

Thanks,

Joseph

This may be off base with your leak but something to look at in any case. The axle seals usually are a pain in the butt to install but should not leak unless two things happen. 1. The spring ring inside the seal has popped out and it may do some damage. That can happen on a main seal at the crank as well. If that happens it can score the crank and you will have to use a speedy seal gizmo or get the crank fixed. Been there done that! 2. The axle itself may have an issue that is causing a seal leak. Perhaps a bearing is bad and makes the axle wobble causing an axle leak. Check to see if the axle has any up/down movement at the transmission.

As to the fill on the tranny itself as stated it is the plug with the square hole and you can just inset a 3/8 drive ratchet to undo and fill till overflow happens. JS
