B16a Swap To 87 Mk1

19 July 2005 - 08:45 AM

Hello.

First i know that thereīs a ton of topics on this everywhere as iīve spent like 4 days reading/searching. But even after all this i end up with a big question that i wasnīt able to figure out.

I have a 87 crx that came with a zc-1.
Now i want to swap in a B16A1 engine complete. I had an accident with my 91 crx sir and so now i have a complete crx vtec to donate the parts.
I can swap whatever i want from one to the other.

My plan is to use the front brakes from the crx vtec, the rear brakes also as i seem to see a way into converting my rear axel to have disk brakes (maybe impossible but i think i can do it); iīll be using the complete wiring rfom the 91 crx and ecu; also using the 91 cluster; etc..

Of course this engine is to be turboed also! wink.gif

Big question:

Can i use the all front of the vtec? Like i keep reading about the axles donīt fit. This means i canīt use the b16a1 transmissions?

Please help as iīm 1 day away from the begining of the swap!

Thanks

1gen Dohc Zc Turbo Vnt - 6psi

Hi!

As promised iīm writting a kind of diary on my turbo install.
First i want to thank to theese many many guys that spend countless hours working on their cars and pcīs to share and spread knoledge on our almost mytical cars.
Without you all i would never had the guts to step into the engine performance world.

Now iīve just installed a turbo on my car.
As most of you know i had a broken zc-1 engine, so i bought a d16a8 to put there.
So far my car is the only 1gen crx that runs a complete =>88 engine besides a white one that came from south africa with a b16a2.

I swaped engine and pgmfi system.
Many of you helped me during that swap.

As i could make it work then i decided that i wanted a more exclusive car and decided to put a turbo on it. Now itīs defenetly the only 1gen in Portugal with a d16a9 and a turbo.

Things are going pretty well, the only anoying problem i have is the oil smoke from exhaust probably due to too much oil goiong to turbo.
I saw bindegal with a 0,3mm restrictor but here in Portugal i canīt seem to find such a samll piece....

Parts list:

- D16A9 100% stock that ran good before pulled out
- turbo GT1749VB at 6psi
- 450cc mitsubishi turbo (black ones)
- intercooler from Audi 2.5TDI
- oil cooler sparco
- costum made oil lines
- pm6 ecu
- gearbox, transmissions, alternator from zc-1 engine
- 100psi fpr
- oil pressure gauge
- L1H1 WB
- samco silicon hoses
- home-made catch can

The plan is to reach the 200hp level with this engine. And have it last 1 year.
Iīm just tuning my maps now, so i need some more time.

for the install it went pretty well, the turbo seems to be made for that location.
Biggest problem is the oil supply/return that in my case, a ghetto kit, took much time.
We had to moove the radiator to the front and costum made the radiator support.
Also the catch can issue has some tricks, but can be solved.
For the biuld we made the adaptor plate (pretty easy to do) and everything else was just adapted as needed.
It took 5 days to make as it was the first, but now we feel that we can make this in 2-3 days top.
I post some pics, so that everyone can see what we made.

My best

87 Crx With Dohc Zc Turbo

Hello guys!

I want to post here this topic about my turbo install as it maight help someone with a similar setup.
Itīs been a long week and as today go 4 days working on it.
We had a stupid drawback and had to disassemble everything yesterday by stupidity.
Never forget to lignup the clutch before gearbox install... took us 1 day to realize that.... mad.gif

Now itīs just assembling the intercooler and radiator and oil cooler.
Then, we hope, it will be ready to start.

Still need to make a basemap but í still have a lot of questions.
Like wich is the better way to create a basemap for my pm6 to run this thing.

Hello.

Iīve just bought a set of theese shocks and iīm having some problems with them.
My car is a aas model 1.6 edm 1gen crx.
They fit fine on it, but i canīt find the height that they must have.
My car is lowered on the front and back and now the shocks arenīt working as they should...
If i get a hole or a bump the shocks make a loud sound like they are on the end.
Would the car be too low?
How low can i put it with theese shocks?

Thanks!

Hi!

I really need help determining if i can make this work:

I have a zc-1 block, pistons, rods.
I have a black top dohc zc head with brown top zc-1 cams.
I have a crank for the sohc zc.
And last, i have 2 adjs cam gears for the sohc zc.

Can i make it work?
I know that the crank/block has to be worked on to enable the crank to turn 100% on the block.
Besides this, can this work?
