The service manual mentions running the engine with the coolant cap off only when I do that, it starts overflowing even when cold. Does this mean my rad is blocked or what?
if you want to see the part of the manual Im talking about- http://www.redpepper...ap10/aad?full=1

btw tom the service manuals have been sooooo helpful even with my brother's 92 civic. tongue.gif

um, i had this exaaaact same thing just happen to me not to long ago.

my radiator overflow would always fill way up like half way or more. and on top of that if i pushed it it would get hot. and if i pulled the rad cap off and reved it anything over idle the fillerneck would fill with water and it would overflow, not like spraying out but it would just overflow.

It turned out it was a leaking h/g. Runs great now.

I'd say headgasket also.I had the exact same problem on my 89 Si. Take it for a run and check to see if you can squeeze the coolant hoses after you shut the car off. If they are really hard as opposed to squishy then it is likely your headgasket.

yeah it was an 89 efi d16a1. It idled at like 800rpm or so, pritty good for a blown h/g. Hell it didnt even feel down on power, so it wasnt leaking badly. Just enough to make it overheat.

not necessairily since the cap is venting the pressure to the overflow when it gets too hot. or at least thats what mine does. so it couldnt be just a bad radiator? it seems to just generate air in the system even after lots of bleeding... i guess my case is sounding worse and worse
