This water pump is kicking my ass and I have not even touched it yet. According to "Haynes" I need to remove the upper motor mount. I have through-bolt removed and one retaining bolt, the other bolt is spinning. I can not get a wrench behind it to stop the bolt. Any ideas?

that dam hanes is for 84 to 91 read it carefully it shoud point out some differances from 87 to 88 if you working on a 1g crx you don't remove any mounts you will have to remove the alternator bracket the timing cover the crank pulley(that will kick your ass)http://www.redpepperracing.com/technical/v/87Civ-fsm/87Civ-fsm-chap10/aag.png.html so you have to take off or lift the valve cover enough to take off the timing belt cover you can look up alot of shit in the service manuals on this page click on the service manual between shoutbox and gallery so you need to take off the belts remove the crank pulley, timing cover, alternator bracket, loosen the tensioner, take off the timing belt and then you will be able to get the water pump off i would align the timing marks first so you need to look in several sections of the manual the first being timing belt replacement which buy the way if you haven't replaced now would be a good time they are like 20 bucks at autozone http://www.redpepper...p6/aai.png.html http://www.redpepper...p6/aay.png.html

and you are SUPPOSED to change your timing belt and water pump at the same time! but carl is correct on all the other stuff. listen to him
