isn't the 86-89 teg calipers and rotors the same as the 88-91 si. I have teggy brakes and they look identical. I thought it just was a better pad selection issue than just strapping on teggy brakes? I know the rears bolt right up if you use the teg knuckle and 1g trailing arm.

Nope, not the same, the brackets are different and the pad backing plates are different.

Question, don't 3G sedans use vented disks? Are the calipers different than the solid rotor versions on the Hatch and CRX?

I went walking through a yard today and noticed every 3G sedan had vented disks. I didn't really want to take them apart just to compare the rotors and hubs side by side to the solid rotored Hatch that was there.

My CRX has vented discs and according to the service manual all versions other than the 1300 hatch should have vented discs as well. I don't know if the US CRX:s have different brakes, only the Si equivalent was available here with the 100-horsepower 1.5i (no lambda or cat).

Pretty sure my DXs are vented as well, but I don't remember for sure since I've never payed attention to it. I think it would have caught my eye if it was a solid rotor.
But the EF brakes are still an "upgrade" to the stock vented setup, size wise, right?

According to an online-parts catalog the stock discs are 231mm and the 88-91 civic ones are 242mm and the calibers are bigger too I imagine. I think anything is an upgrade to the stock brakes, they really suck when you consider the performance.
I used to have Mazda 323f 1.8GT that did 0-100kmph (0-60mph) in roughly the same time as the CRX and it had a lot more stopping power (vented front discs, solid rear).

When our cars first came out Consumer Reports rated our cars the red good circle in everything
but brakes, which got the bad black circle.

Not that you can believe everything they say but still.

So this would measure nearly as 86-89 teg discs?

BTW Nice Write Up!!

yeah I think the diameter of the rotor/brake piston is the same as the teggy, its just the design and aftermarket brake pad availability of the 88-91 si are more desirable, thats all, so if you only want to run factory pads than just strap on those teggy brakes from your donor car you'll be fine. coupled with the teggy proportioning valve and a 86-87 lude carbed brake master cylinder and whaalaa you have kick ass factory brakes
