You should be able to find an EW5 engine and wiring loom. You will have to search a bit with the local yards that do older hondas. There is a HONBITS in Melbourne as far as I know - so start there.

I'll have at least the engine available after I complete my zc browntop swap; but I'm in Perth which makes nz closer. GENONE has an EW5 in part disassembled state, and there is at least another couple around in our Perth CRX club. Melbourne is a bigger city so I would expect to find one there.

If you find an EW5 and need just a wiring loom, give us a pm - there is a local yard that does the older hondas and they just might come to teh party for a loom.

Thanks for the offer, appreciated. I thought EW5 was CVCC ??, anyway JDT's car appears to have most of what I need and it's a matter of adapting it to the sedan loom etc. I've also noticed that 3GCVC is stripping a sedan with EFI. If the looms and a few other bits and pieces are available from that car, it might make things even simpler.

PM received Steve and no problem. I've attached a link to a photo of the engine so others can have their input on whether or not it's suitable. The car is practily complete so it should have most of what is needed.

JDT, is there any possibility you'd be willing to ship parts to the USA?

If so I'd be interested in that manifold, tb, injectors, etc. (if lambs doesn't need them).

Sorry but I'm taking all of that....I started work on it yesterday.

Suggest you pm 3GCVC as he seems to be able to access this type of thing very easily.

That looks a very familiar engine. And yes, the EW5 has some zip, particularly round a city.

Probably a totally unnecessary advice, but leave the vacuum hoses attached to the intake manifold and the black box. If you have to remove them, number the little suckers. The black box attaches with two bolts to the firewall, the wiring is in two or three plugs, and it isn't heavy, so its not a real problem. Reconnecting them in a month from memory would be a problem.

Another totally unnecessary comment - the plastic in the dash is btittle, and the tabs etc break easily. So if you want to reinstall bits go easy. On my crxs one has only about half the original attachment points are still functioning and cable ties do the rest, and on the other I went for a total dash swap.

And GENONE has a very original auto gen 1 crx, so if you run into any serious problems give him a pm.

I took one look at all those hoses and decided to leave them connected to the manifold. As you say, better to just unbolt the box from the firewall and unplug it (3 plugs in this case).

I'll keep that in mind as I have to remove the dash to get to some of the wiring.

Perhaps I should start another thread, but I am wondering where you guys get your (new) spare parts, if needed. I was in the local Honda dealer the other day and asked their spare parts people about parts for grey imports and got a pretty unequivocal 'no way' - unless the vehicle was officially imported by Honda Australia, they won't support it at all. That's completely the opposite of Nissan's approach, for example, who will get in any part still on the Master Parts list, usually within 10 days.

Genone and I survive as a partnership

There is an'auto recycler' who services the older honda market and whose mechanic likes early hondas and gen 1's, and the owner drives a gen 2 crx, and we source a lot of bits through there. There is another honda recycler in Perth as well, although they do the later cars. We also grab the occasional car and stockpile the parts we think we need. Thats the advantage of having a couple of guys in the same city who are able to combine their efforts. So we have complete front metal noses, bonnets, doors, glass, rear hatch, bumpers, dash, wiring harnesses etc. Plastic bits are rare, so we are building up fibreglass moulds as we need them

EW5 pieces we should be able to help one way or another - Genone has one in his front yard and they are at both recyclers.
