Ball Joint Thoughts

Hi All,

 

While struggling to find replacement Integra lower control arms (keep getting civic ones), I have been trying to think of what else I can do to keep the extra length of the teg arms (my ball joints are shot).

Now, I have read countless times that these ball joints are non serviceable, however they must be installed after the arm itself has been produced, so my question is what makes it non serviceable if you have a set of brand new parts sitting there?

 

Hear me out...This is not a solution to make parts easy to get or cheaper, simply a possible way to keep the longer arms.

If I get the new civic arms from a parts store and open up the ball joint immediately, all parts are brand new and unused. Why can I then not install them straight into the integra arms? Does it have to do with the sealing off at the bottom? If so, instead of tacking the plate back on could a freeze plug(welch plug) be used instead? Or is it a safety thing to do with the arm itself cracking around the housing?

 

Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't see it in any of the LCA discussion threads.

Dohc Zc Cams

Hi All,

 

Looking to see if anyone has some aftermarket dohc cams they aren't using any more. I am running the D16A8 head and cams.

Its for a NA race car application, will be doing cam gears, springs and engine management as well so no limits on the specs really (the more power the better!).

 

Finding it hard to come accross anything new except for the Bisimoto cams.

Front Tow Strap

Hi All,

 

Currently trying to put the finishing touches on the race car and need to install a front tow strap. Has to be a strap so cant be a solid loop style one like Cheddas.

The best idea I have come up with so far is reinforcing one of the bumper supports (the two parts that protrude forward at the front of the car) and making a bracket that will allow me to get it clear of the bumper mounts toward the centre of the car so it can stick out the front of the bumper.

But that doesnt fill me with a whole lot of confidence if it seriously needs to be pulled out of somewhere since the bumper supports are only thin sheet.

And I feel like using the bar that the oem tow points are attached too will only cause the bumper to be completely destroyed since it will be down too low.

 

Has anyone installed a tow strap on a 3G civic and can enlighten me with either words or pictures?
