National Champ EP Honda CRX

Tour champ in 2004, pro solo champ in 2005, one cone away from tour champ in 2009. Multiple tour and pro solo wins in 2009-2010. I have not raced it since the 2010 season except for a few local events just to run it once in a while.

1985 CRX originally built by Chris Dorsey with motor by Kirk Olsen.

Motor – 1.5l high compression (12.5:1) with extensive head and valve train work. Cams set up for a broad flat torque curve. Dyno'd at sea level with 161 hp / 138 lb ft torque. Full dry sump oiling system with 4 gal oil tank and custom low profile oil pan. Jenvey ITB on custom intake manifold. Remote oil filter from CM Filters. Custom extra long primary flat 4 to 1 header. 86 SI transmission with Mugen diff rebuilt 2010 with one season autocross. Stage III clutch. 034 Motorsports ECU.

Chassis/Body – ballasted to minimum weight. 3 gal fuel tank with Bosch 255l/hr pump and surge tank. Electric power steering with 2:1 steering quickener (1.6 turns lock to lock). Light weight single pass radiator. Mugen/Houseman hood, fenders, bumpers, side skirts. Lexan windows and windshield. Full cage.

Suspension – Re valved, shortened, double adjustable Koni shocks/struts at both ends, rebuilt in 2010 by Pro Parts USA. OPM 29 mm front torsion bars. Custom front brakes including rotors and hats from Pegasus Racing (designed for Formula Ford), Outlaw 1000 aluminum calipers with custom brackets, and Hawk pads. Aluminum rear drum brakes. Mumford linkage rear suspension.

Wheels/Tires – Two sets of Revolution wheels 9.5” F/ 8” R (about 11/10 lbs F/R), One set Circle Aluminum wheels 10” wide (8.5 lbs, no longer made), Rains (Dirt Stockers) on stock alloy wheels never used. All race tires have rubber but are three years old.

Spares – two steering racks, 1.5:1 steering quickener

Price – Wife says it's time to sell so price lowered to $7500

you couldn't buy a new motor like this for that price!

Will email pics on request

Talked to Howard last night, I'm adding this to my garage. So it's this car and the KaKaBox. I'll put the 87 OPM SCCA IT CRX bare roller up for sale.

You must not be married then... If I tried to buy more garage fodder without selling something first, I'd be skinned alive.

Congratulations Buford! Now show us some pictures of it, then pictures of it racing. Sounds like magnum-fun for the price if you dont have to do too much to bring it current for racing. :P

Been Married for like 41 years now.  She was my companion when I was crew chief on Formula 2s and 3s in Europe in the 60s -70s. She was my team manager when I drove Formula Fords and won some major 50 car+ races in 78"- 79" Hell she bought a CRZ when I was on business trip with no consultation.  She put her foot down, only one Car Meet per year, she want us to be racing at something. So even KaKaBox is going Auto-xing, Ohio Mile, and lapping. Sitting here at Kentucky Speedway now. Also FYI: she got wind that Honda may be doing a non Hybred SI version of the CRZ.  she wants it!! She also wants me back in open wheel.

Thanks for the heads-up on a possible non-hybrid CRZ. That might actually make me want to get one...

I have a good friend who works for Honda. If there was a turbo in the works for the 2015 CRZ, you didn't hear it from me....

OK everybody the car is now here in Ohio.  It needs atop to bottom cleaning. Will take it to a CRX meet here in Dayton, like late September.
