I have the stock D15A3 in my 87 CRX, its FI.

I want to install a catch can, just because I have money to play with, and I like doing that kind of shit.

I know I would run the vac line off the valve cover into it, but then where do I run the outlet of the catch can?

Does anyone know the outer diameter of the tube coming out of the valve cover by any chance?

Thanks guys!

-Gabe

If the catch can is a recirculating type, the outlet just connects to where the original vacuum hose from the valve cover was connected. Presumably this is on the intake manifold somewhere - I've never messed with the PCV system on my CRX.

If the catch can is a vent to atmosphere type, you'll just have a little air filter hanging off the can's outlet. Wherever the old vacuum hose led to gets plugged.

For either type you'll have to periodically drain it, and watch out for water in the can during freezing weather, as it could freeze and plug the can up.

I'm not sure how much of an added benefit a catch can is on a CRX, but I guess it can't hurt. Newer cars with direct injection have more problems with gunked valves, because you don't have the gasoline with its detergents/Techron/etc. mixed in with the intake charge. I'm definitely going to install one on my wife's VW, once a decent kit's developed for the new TSI motors.

Hope this helps -

Doug

On my racecar (probably not appropriate for a street car) where we are required to run with one per our rules, I removed the vapor canister that sits on the fire wall and used a coolant overflow bottle (from a boneyard 84 model) that has the exact same 'V' shaped clip.

I opened the hole in the lid for a larger vent line, and then drilled a couple of vent holes in the top.

Easy to inspect and/or drain.
