Hi!

I really need help determining if i can make this work:

I have a zc-1 block, pistons, rods.
I have a black top dohc zc head with brown top zc-1 cams.
I have a crank for the sohc zc.
And last, i have 2 adjs cam gears for the sohc zc.

Can i make it work?
I know that the crank/block has to be worked on to enable the crank to turn 100% on the block.
Besides this, can this work?

Well I know that the head will fit on the block and the cams should work too since they are interchangeable.. Contact zc-hybrid on this site.. He did the head swap and I think so did Aren D...

The crank I'm not so sure about.. There are a bunch of measurements you need to take to see if it will work.. If it were me I would get a ZC1 or D16A1 crank to make things way easier and that will fit for sure..

The cam gears may not fit.. According to the AEM site they list a different part number for the gears.. They may work but I don't know for sure.. The cam gears for the EW motors work with the D16A1/ZC1.. Maybe someone else can answer this for you... Sorry I can't be more help..

as far as i know (and do NOT quote me on this--as hollowman said, double check your measurements!) the SOHC D16 cranks will work in a DOHC... which is good because the later cranks are better balanced.

IF it does fit it would be a nice to use the later cranks.. As Shawn (shadowboy) said the cranks are better balanced and a bit stronger than the D16/ZC1.. Also they may be slightly lighter as well, but I'm not sure.. wink.gif

Ok guys!

Here´s the deal: after looking, mesuring and thinking about it for long hours, i got the conclusion.

The crank can be used, you just need to take a litle bit from the block because it will it the oil "tubes" that take the oil from the oilpan to the head of engine.
I guess that 1-2mm is quite enouth to clear the crank rotation.
Then i´ll have the main bearings issue, but it´s just a metter of working the block to open a litle more the 4 places where the crank sits on (and bigger bearings).

I have mesured and found that we must use the sohc engine belt.
After this, just plug in the pm6 pistons and rods.
I´´m gathering the money needed for this, so i only plan to build it on the end of this month.

Let´s see how it goes!

this engine is going turbo, so big headaches coming in.smile.gif

Another thing: the cam gears work no problem!
I bought (for very very cheap) the Bombz adjs cam gears (blue) and they fit like if they were made for it.

Now, on the dohc engine/crank, they won´t.
I have a lot of interest on this engine, as on the last time i invented on a d-series it came out very very surprising.

When we took out the block of a zc-1 engine (my other 1g crx) and placed there the d16a9 block and cams, it came out a "beast" in high rpms.
I can tell you this car is all stock but the block and cams and the 87 pg7 integra ecu.
Man, you can go till 125-130 mpph with it easy!

Have you ever tried this?

Ok.
My engine is going to the machine shop for some work.
I´ll get back with details and pics of it before building it.

so are you saying you can use the cam gears wtih the zc cams, but you cant use the crank gear from the sohc d16 with the zc crank? what causes it to not work? just wondering....

Sounds like a great project man, I wanna see some pics!!!

So the d16a9 block can be used in our cars?? hmmm.. Interesting.. I thought only the head could be utilized from the d16a9 on a ZC1/D16A1 block.. dry.gif The ZC1 transmission bolted right up??
