I have a flush headlight 3g (86-87) but I'd imagine similar CRX/sedan/wagons to have relevant application info.
I wanted to know what the experiences have been with HID's- their wattage, color temperature/kelvin(k) rating, and our application info in general.
The kit I have in mind is This "ApolloX" kit on Newegg. I am leaning toward this kit mainly because it is sold on Newegg, in which I am a believer.
Your feedback is appreciated

My advice would be to search for "slim ballast" kit on Ebay, and preferably labeled "german engineered". I forgot the name of my last kit, but it was excellent quality.
All of them are really the same though, when your spending less than $100. I'm sure there are some really pimp-daddy kits out there, but I woudn't worry about it. Spend your money on go-fast parts, or better yet, save it. Hell, unless Ron Paul get's into office, you'll need that cash!!!
As for bulbs, I've always dug (not the "bi-xenon") the Hi/Low bulbs. Its an HID/Xenon low beam, with a halogen high beam. All built into the same bulb. So, you could be cruising around with the HID's running, and if a cop rolls up, or if you are following someone down a country road for a while, you could switch to halogens and run a more traditional lighting for a bit. They don't cost a single bit more than the xenon-low (no high function) kits, but you just have to look a little bit harder to find one.
Temp: I like 4300/5000 best. Has an OEM look, and makes the highest light output. Hard to find in stock though, since most of the ricers like 8K and up. 6K is most common, and is really as high as people advise to go if you still want a solid light output. When it get's "too" blue, you are just putting candy on the car, not lighting.

I have on my Toyota I have Hella e codes with 5k bulbs. There just low beam 35w. I myself would not go over 6k. You loose light after 6k.I just have a ebay kit. they work great. Seeing that you can make your stock headlights black housing that might help with the light output.
I know my ride ant a honda but thats my input.
The way I see the HID thing is it depends on the person. There is people that love them and some other people think the should be band.

The HID is so bright it can decrease your vision.

The idea being your pupils dialate overly and with the sharp
cut off you can actually see not as good.
My wife had a VW we changed from regular to those non HID but
projector lenses it was great.

When I changed to HID in my old mark one the difference in quality of light, throw and cover was amazing, They were much better than when I had them fitted in the mk2.
The mk1 flush lamps really do make HID's worthwhile.

This is why I wouldn't run HID kits in non HID housings. The lighting is uncontrolled, it's no different than driving around with high beams all the time... except it's even brighter.
I'm sure you love the lighting, I know I want to drive around with my high beams on because I can see so much better, but I don't want to blinded people.
I've bought a set of High/Low projectors, what it is is a projector with a pivoting cutoff. Switch to high and the cutoff is moved out of the way. The housings are from a Lexus. I was going to retrofit my CRX with them, but I think I'll start with my Suzuki, and put the other on the CB125.

My idea on the matter is that my car suffers from the typical light output of a 3g, or the lack thereof. I agree that the light shouldn't be blinding and I've considered the... contrast ratio? of light reflection to the rest of my visual range- I figure a similar issue is the argument of wearing tinted sunglasses vs polarized sunglasses.

I'd like to have better light that is executed in a tasteful manner, not a blinding fireball of road-rage inducing sunlight for the purpose of killing hipster-partying vampires.

I just recently got "over" my love for HID's in non HID lenses.... I rocked between 4 and 5500K kits on my CRX and my truck for almost 3 years. Don't do it man.... I regret ever having done it. All you are doing is seeing more in the dark because you're throwing light EVERYWHERE down the road. I adjusted and re-adjusted my headlights at least 50 times. There is almost no point, as the intensity of the light is so uncontrollable in the halogen housings it is going to go freekin' everywhere no matter what you do. I don't care what anybody says; and I'm never going to be one of the "BAN THESE THINGS!!" type people who hates on everyone who owns and uses them. Have your fun... I did. But you will grow out of em' one day. And if you're like me... you'll never go back.
Nice quality halogen bulbs FTW. In my Euro housings and cheepo foglights, I can see for miles on the back roads.

What? EMO Euro flush?
But yes, Euro flushies have a nice clear lens. Put a nice bright bulb that's actually designed for the housings in em and you've got great output that's not overly blinding.

I Like the look of the edm head lights but have some concern about the argument against those as well. As I understand, they're designed for driving on the wrong side of the road, you know, the left.

the kit your trying to buy is garbage i bought some for my civic they blew in 2 days i would go with xenon just bought some for my crx they work great very nice and lit up the street great and they were only 30 bucks on ebay =)

More mis-information. JDM, NZ, UK and maybe AU too are left side of the road markets. Almost everywhere else is right side, including EDM market.
