I have been corresponding with a guy with a legitimate 1984 Honda CRX Mugen Pro. He really likes the car, but is having problems finding up grades for it. I have not seen the car in person, but from the pictures and description it looks clean, complete and original. He has put it up for sale on eBay with a starting bid of $1,000.
Oh yeah, one tiny problem. The car is in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The story I got on the car was that it was sent to Saudi Arabia as a gift to the guy who had the rights to import Hondas into the country. Somehow the current owner got his hands on it and has enjoyed it for a few years. I advised him on getting some more performance out of the car's EW engine, but he could not find a shop in Jeddah that could do the machine work.
If you are a serious collector (Indyman?) this might be a golden opportunity to get in cheap.

Ha, I'd love to see the shipping quote for DAS (ebay's shipping company of choice).

Yeah
Just drive it down to Singapore and ship from there! Interesting trip through Iraq and Iran, not to mention India and the rest. I've got enough holidays and a passport Mike.

Gorgeous car. Wish I had the $$ to import it, and wish it was a 1.6L too. $1000 is worth it just for the wheels.

No bump on hood, wouldn't that mean the 1.5 is stock for the car? If so, wouldn't it be worth more in as original condition as possible?

I have been corresponding with the owner for a number of months. He wanted to get some tips on improving performance on the car, but he did not have access to tuning shops in Jeddah. I guess he has given up on the car and is looking to sell it so he can move on to something that delivers more performance.
If someone was running a scam he would have advertised an Enzo for $100,000, not some obscure Honda.
Sadly. I expect that this car will langish in Saudi Arabia and be passed along to subsequent owners who have no interest in the model or it's history. My horror is that we will next see this car in an Arabian Hoonage video, ("Watch as Jaffar drives an old Honda on two wheels until he hits a camel!")
But for just one moment imagine an Indiana Jones-type adventure to go rescue the last CRX Mugen Pro... Flying into an exotic Middle-Eastern country, haggeling over the sale, driving across the burning sands, fighting pirates on the high seas, finding romance, narrow escapes, landing the car at a US port, bribing customs officials to allow it into the country, driving across the US to your home, turning the last corner before your house and then... and then... and then... getting t-boned by an SUV being driven by a housewife yakking on her cellphone.

If I had the patience to try to find a shipping company and deal with the whole overseas shipping thing, I would on this car in a heartbeat. Wow! I can't stop looking at it.
