Yeah I know that car, I posted the link and have the mag with that article. Not to mention he is my hero. rolleyes.gif

He ran it one time so far and went 10.36 on that pass. Im very confident he'll go almost mid-9's all motor. He currently has the all-motor honda record of 9.99 in his last car. ph34r.gif

Speaking of which, I was told the GSR manifold wouldn't fit in our cars, that you needed the B16 manifold... Unless that's without the probably-custom engine mounting/firewall work like on Erick's car.

As far as the 89 d16a1 in your car I have done it and I dont know how to modify the stock harness but If you have a donor Teg just take the complete harness out of the integra and put it in your car, you will however run into tough spots like the gagues and the vss problem (do a search on this board and there is some details on how to fix it).

Aren D, I just looked at the link to your picture. You say it is an 89 D16A1. Am I missing something or where did the 4 bolts on the top of the valve cover go? I say this because I have an 86 brown top and my understanding was that all 86-89 had the same valve covers except for the color(brown vs black).

I must admit that the shape looks the same and your Honda logo moved from the rear to the front. Your bolts are on the edge like the 2G ZC's . Am I losing it, please elaborate? JS

If you want one of these Logos send me a PM

strudel,
we had a similar discussion about his motor a month or so ago. we never really came to a solid conclusion. its either a d16a1 bottom end with a 2g zc head or the long lost missing link in the US to the zc. rumor has it that late in 89 the integra had a motor that was similar but not quite like it's earlier brothers from 86 to early 89. i have never seen one only rumors. could be thats what he has. or it could be that its a cali model emmissions car only from 89. nobody has any concrete answers. so its existence is discounted as myth. i know the parts guys at my acura dealer could not find anything on it.

sspcivic31, Interesting! It certainly isn't the standard valve cover. If it is a hybrid I wasn't aware that a 2G head could be put on a 1G Integra. I will make an enquiry on the Teg forum.

Can you link me to the earlier discussion on this topic to get the background. Thanks JS

yeah the zc's have the same head gasket as the d16a1 this is true in my expireince from 86-91 on the brown/ black top 1g zc and 2g zc as well. zc hybrid in the uk has done this swap with a edm d16a1(a3 over there i think) with a d16a8/9 head. i'll try to find the link to the other thread later

Aren D, Look on the back side of the tranny under the starter and see if you can see the engine deignation. It should be on a flat area just above and to the right of the rear engine mount. That would clear up the issue.

Also tell us where the engine mounts are. If the timing side mount emerges from the middle of the cover rather than on the front of the block you definitely don't have an A1 as they are the ugly duckling of the Honda fleet and makes swaps a bit more difficult. The tranny mount on an A1 is on the front of the tranny rather than on the top. Three mounts in total counting rear for an A1.

Its always interesting to find out the lineage of your engine, knowingly or unknowingly. JS
