Hey,
Anyone know where I can pick up a high amp alt for my 87 ? Also is it possible to mod the ones from the 88 up models to fit? Any ideas or info appreciated. My stereo is fast outgrowing the stock alternator atm hehe.

Not sure about that, but I saw something really cool last time I was at the track...
A 2G CRX owner made a custom bracket to hold an additional bracket in the general location of the AC compressor, and ran a belt to the crank pulley. That way he had a fully seperate charge coming from a fully seperate alternator to power his stereo... as far as I know there was no reserve battery, it was just straight current from the alternator to amplifiers.... you just couldn't have boom without the car running, thats all.
Cheers,
Mark

i dont know about the 87 for shure but on my 90 crx i have a 150amp jeep wrangler alt, i had to make a bracket for it so i could get the next size bigger belt to fit, alt doesnt clear the block to get stock belt on, i used a Chrome one from mr gasket i think its universal v8, i just cut it to fit, and re-drilled the mounting hole, never had a problem with it, that a optima red top, and dual 00 gauge power and ground wires keep my system alive, im getting to where i need a 2 farad cap though
