I read on this forum somewhere about a member putting the 5th gear from an Accord in a Teg transmission they were running in a 3g... (kakabox perhaps?)

Does anyone know if this is possible to do for a stock 1g CRX transmission? (1985 DX EW1)

I'm planning on rebuilding my gearbox in the very near future and the thought of having a steeper overdrive interests me heavily, since the vehicle is my work commuter and i spend about an 2 hours on the freeway in 5th gear a day anyways.. The more mpg's i can squeeze from this rock the better.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The 5th gear from a CG (87-89 accord/86-89 Integra) will not fit in a CRX 1g Transmission. I do not know of a higher ratio 5th for the older transmissions.

Remember KaKaBox and Chris's hatch have Teg trannys. You should look for an HF final drive. Search the Pepper for discussions on this.

Damn you're right:/ I thought he had a 3G trans.

I was hoping this would be a simple and inexpensive solution, i haven't had any luck locally finding any 1g parts in salvage, and If I did I'm sure the salvage yards in my city would ask for an arm and a leg for one, every part I've called about have been so far off what I've read people on here getting them for.

Oh well:/

What's the difference between an hf final drive and my dx??

Si is 4.425 FD
DX is 4.2 FD
US, 49 states had a 2.95:1 FD ratio
California only HFs had 3.55:1
US, Hi Alt (mountain areas) came with 4.06:1

If I remember correctly, Jamie Houseman (see my signature) has a tall fifth gear set that he machined some years back...contact him and see if he has it and wants to sell it.

Awesome, thanks for the tip! I sent him an email. I've been meaning to email him anyways, I'm interested in a fiberglass front header panel for my car, i love the look of the mugen one. Just hope I don't have to sell my first born to get it.

So just so i'm understanding, the HF fifth gear is geared taller than the DX by a noticeable difference? I'm not really familiar with gearbox terminology, if what i know is correct, changing the final drive will effect all of the gears and not just 5th, is that correct?
