  • Description: I bought this car for my sister. She said she'd feel more comfortable driving a smaller car. That didn't end up happening so the car's stayed with me.

When I bought it, the car had been painted yellow with some ridiculous graphics and an Autozone spoiler. But otherwise it was in fantastic condition. The car was literally owned by an old woman. This was really Grandma's del Sol. She was the original owner, bought the car in Cathedral City just a short ways away from here. Used it to drive from here to Washington and back a few times before giving the car to her grand children, who had no interest in it and sold it to me for the down payment for an SUV..

I had planned to get it painted back to it's original color, but fate intervened. My brother was borrowing the car and got T-boned at an intersection. The insurance adjuster was a car guy and recognized that these cars aren't that common anymore. Wrote me a check and allowed me to keep the car. Since the airbags didn't deploy, it wasn't totaled.

So a friend of mine took on the task of bringing her back to life and I think he did an absolutely fantastic job. The car is gorgeous today. I'm happy to say I now own one of the cleaner del Sols I've seen recently.

And I don't even care that it's not a B16A2 car or that it's an automatic..
