Well my .02 cents (see verizon youtube vid) say that it's not power that saves fuel, it's efficiency. Usually leaner is indeed more efficient, but there's a cut off point. You can look at a Brake Specific Fuel Consumtion (BSFC, (lbs of fuel)/(HP)(hr)) or something to get the best idea of efficiency. Think of it this way, if the car makes more power, you use less throttle... so there's a balance to figure out.

This is what I would suggest. I had a similar setup from custom best exhaust. Yours looks much better than mine did. You could shorten the the downstream tube a bit too to make it fit better.

I think someone nailed it by saying it's a drifter trend. They need cars stiff and predictable, So I guess it works for them. Otherwise, I suppose it's a good way to get the rim closer the fender.... Still kinda silly IMHO.
