What really catches my attention is the JDM ew5 specs are almost identical to the USDM ew4/D15a3 but the ew5(CVCC) head is cut just like a D15a2(CVCC).....

Engine/Crx specs here: http://kumo.swcp.com.../crx/specs.html

Ew5 cut-away

My head(D15a2) next to the Ew5 head.....

Its just interesting to me cause of my setup and all...difference is the ew5 makes more power...Ive read its because of the fuel mapping of the ecu...then Ive also read its because of the cam design, but I really never found any hard related statements as too why it makes more power..If you look at the cutaway there are d15a2 pistons on the rods in the engine. The throttle body is also like the Si with the two seperate butterflys. unsure.gif The intake manifold is the biggest thing. I dont know, its late and im bored.

yeah that would be great Im wanting to compare. thats all can you get a pic of the throtle body to? It looks like the ew4/d15 in the illustrated cutaway picture but I would like to see it from another angle. Pics where you can see the tops of the pistons would be cool too. I know what the head looks like biggrin.gif If you can get one of the intake manifold too that would be great. Thanx man.

here are the pics of the EW5

this is the EW5 ECU

cam has PE2 stamped into it

also R3 on the other side

the intake manifold

this manifold is from an 1984 EW5 my 1986 EW5 intake manifold is different
also there is an extra injector you can just see the plug for it i have been told its a cold start injector but im sure it is the injector for the CVCC because i can see the runners from it to the ports on the manifold. and that little butterfly in the throttlebody im sure runs to feed the air for the CVCC ports

found this on it same code as one of the codes from the pistons

this is the piston very dirty but ther is a piston under all that sludge(btw this was not my engine)

here is the numbers off the rod and pistons

the throttle body

i THINK that little butterfly on the right is for the CVCC ports??? not 100% sure though

this is the head
headgasket is still attached

PE-0

exhaust ports

intake side

i also found it interesting that the valve springs are only singles???

also there must be something to run this engine properly in the ECU because when running from an EW4 or EW3 injected ECU one ECU rev limits at 5.5k and the other runs really rich. like backfire and black smoke when you take your foot off the gas and shitloads of it

I love my GENONE and EW5 smile.gif

I believe there is also a compression difference that could make the EW5 more powerful.

From the pics I can see that the throttle body is different...that small butterfly must be for the cvcc valves. The one on the ew3/ew4 doesnt have that but the is a divot where it should be...just a place for air to be thrown off now..but its still there.

I wonder what one of those would do for the si manifold. hey you get one more pic of the back of it..next to a normal one? So I see the intake manifold and the throttle body are different. The ecu is different and the cam is different. The head looks the same (D15a2) just a different stamp number on it...it even has the Egr port like the carbed head..but this passage way is blocked on the intake... About the ecu stuff I can understand because the pe2 is designed to run a cvcc head. The pe7 isnt. Im surprised some of these carbed ew1/d15a2 guys havent converted their engines to ew5. They could get the engine harness, the intake manifold, the throttle body. They could probally use their stock cam and be ok. Has anyone ever tried this conversion before? unsure.gif If not y? Thanx for the pics man, Ill be looking for the rest.... biggrin.gif

do you want me to take the throttle body off and get a pic of where it bolts up?

on the EW3 manifold i have it has a plug for the 5th injector on the wiring loom maybe you should check this it might work all you would need is EW5 inlet man throttlebody and ECU then if the loom is the same. i cant imagine any other reason why there would be an extra plug on it.
