So, Kennedy stopped by my house this past weekend and I noticed these "collars" on his seat belt buckles. I don't think I've ever seen these before and couldn't figure out what they were. They looked like they were probably OE parts, but added later because they kind of had a "universal" look to them; they had three possible mounting points, but only one was being used; probably application specific. Then I was scrolling through the interiors thread and saw this pic with the same thing on the buckles. See the thick collar around the top of the buckle with a lip sticking out. Anybody know what these are?

They were installed after fat people complained about their jelly rolls getting pinched when they were buckling up. J/K. I don't know, but only recall seeing them on the CRXs.

I think they were a Recall type part added, because if you got the slide in there sideways a little it would lock up and you couldnt really get it back out. Its kinda a guide for the buckle.

Oh yeah, and if anybody wants to sell some; I call dibs before Vicious.
it was a recall on the buckles. the red release buttons would crack. these adapters prevented you from misaligning the belt when you buckled up.man its been a long time since i installed those....

so it was a recall that most people didnt bother with getting done?
is it possible to still have such recalls taken care of so long after the actual recall date?

Wow, these take me way back.
these were only installed when the recall was requested by the customer and only on TAKATA buckles.
as stated already, these guides were designed to help "guide" the buckle into the latch without hitting the red part of the buckle latch. The plastic on those is brittle so a little side tension is all it takes to break.
The recall is still current...you could go to the dealer and request it...they will definately have to look it up and order the part. (Service Buletin 95-028)
As a reminder, our cars have a lifetime seatbelt warranty. As long as the damage isn't caused by the customer, the part and labor is covered.
If you don't want (or trust) the dealer to do the install, you are still in luck.
The part number for the guides is 06850-SE3-305ZA with a suggested retail price of $2.65 for the kit (guides screws and anchor plates)
(kit is black and fitting 1st gen CRXs and 3rd gen Civics with TAKATA buckles)

Well I went out and checked my car and it has Takata seat belts, so I guess I'll have to order these. For Safety of course. I called my dealer and he said they would be here Friday. I don't know if I'll install them, but they'll be neat to have with the car.
Thanks for the info Steve.

Me too - I remember getting the recall notice in the mail back in the day, but was too lazy to take the car to the dealer to get the fix.
Good to know the parts are still available. Might just have to get them, after all these years. My wife was grousing about the passenger's buckle being finicky the other day; perhaps I've got an incipient failure.

I never got a recall notice.
About 1996 my seatbelt jammed stuck shut with me in it.
I didn't misalign it and the button was not cracked.
I went to the dealer to see if I could buy one asap.
They said they would replace it free.
About a week later I go back and they had replaced
both buckles.
It's my understanding they only do this once per car.
I've also read on this site somebody saying they are no longer
warrentying the seat belts on our cars. This was maybe
5 years back I read it.
