So I recently bought a beater 84 CRX.

A few gas tanks later and I am starting to see a decreace in MPG. First I got about 30 mpg, the next is about 20 and now I put in 16$ worth of gas, im on empty with 156 miles on that tank.

When I drive, I can smell fuel from inside my car. (someone said that might be because a cylinder has no compression?) And recently when I accelerate, I can feel the car studder.

Is this the case of a bad fuel pump? Or am I having other problems.

Thanks

youre probally running really rich...could be a bad ecu, incorrect timing issues, faulty fuel pump, fouled out o2 sensor...and a few others search up the board for more answers...later smile.gif

Well to help a little more, I fogot to mention that my car smokes when I start it up. Its more of a dark white smoke.(means i'm running rich right?) But then it goes away after a while.

If I am running rich is there anyway I can fix it at home? Im new to cars so I dont know much about them. sad.gif

Woah... mine doesnt do that... but it normally after it sits for... hmmm...I'd say overnight, it takes 6-10 ish times to turn over before it starts. I let it sit for like a week or two once and it took like, 15-20 times turning over before it started... I didn't do them all at once though, it went like this: turn the key the first time, turned over sluggishly 10 times then i let off. next i let it turn over about 6 times with a little on the gas pedal then i let off. next it turns over about 4 or 5 times with a little gas and it finally starts. Bad fuel pump? bad fuel filter? OMFG?

When mine had similar problems, it was my 02 sensor

That would explain the horrible gas milege.

That would explain the smell since it is running rich

That would explain the studdering as well, since it is choking on gas

But that was my problem.....I can almost guarantee you that if you have never changed it, it is bad. And if it isnt all the way bad, it wouldnt hurt to change it./
