Hey guys, I am new to the site here... So I bought an 86 Civic hatchback from a member here (no names given) and he had already swapped a D16A1 into it so I figured it couldn't be too bad.... BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

The Good:
http://www.t-mobilep...oq4md7f59zphe06

A pretty cleanly swapped D16A1, The only problem is that I am going to do my best to blow this motor so I can drop in an H22.

The Rice:

First off I spent about 1 hour peeling off all of the stickers that were on the car... The best part is that none of the parts on the stickers were on the car!!

http://www.t-mobilep...d6boyyjasu8nmxr

So I see this inflator figuring it is ran to defog the windows (stupid mod ppl do when the eliminate the blower motor) but the next pic shows a different story...

http://www.t-mobilep...7z0qdlk3xdym47r

lol thats the hose for the inflator running through the fore wall and it is inserted into a hole cut into the air intake tube... This is called the cheap ricer turbo... Which has been debunked as a pure myth for YEARS and this guy did it!!! LMAO!! For those who dont understand, he thought that turning this on while running the car would force air into the intake kinda like a turbo... rolleyes.gif

http://www.t-mobilep...rgtn7sgfr31c2l1

A long string of these ridiculous lights that are blue in color were ran throughout the interior... Just plain gay!!

http://www.t-mobilep...fha3cobviuuczn2

From a distance this looks like a cool shifter, but look closer......... Its a damn emergency brake handle!!

http://www.t-mobilep...aoz1efohl24z6f7

Yet another common ricer move... Add a steering wheel from a cooler car... Too bad someone stole my racing wheel or this would be gone already!

http://www.t-mobilep...zizxqsph8jie82h

Last but not least... Not really ricey, but just plain stupid!!! this is the fuel pump from the integra that the engine came from. They have it ziptied to the rearend... oh also they had the regulator closed off and the hoses were pinched so you had to cycle the key a few times to get the car to start!

Another minor issue.. The guy told me that due to the weight of the engine, I had to get integra springs because the car bottomed out... Uhhhhh they had the torsion bar down ALL THE WAY!! OF COURSE THE CAR IS GOING TO BOTTOM OUT!!! We just cranked the torsion bars back to normal and now the car sits perfectly normal... Heres a pic of the car as it is after removing the rice...

http://www.t-mobilep...2uc42v6j9jdvp3d

Now let the real work begin.. Time to make this car a FREAK!!! I will post pics as I go...
Any ideas, please post them.. First step is finding a header and fabricating exhaust since they dont't make aftermarket for this car as far as I know...

Oh yeah one thing I forgot there were also "Wings" on either side of the front bumper... They were peices of metal, one per side attached to the side of the bumper by wood screws... Granted the kid I bought it from was a nice guy but WTF was he thinking with some of this stuff.......

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Thats lil needles old car. Its came a long way. yeah hes a fan of stickers and ricey blue paint. That can be fixed. You can find a header for that engine though and after market support is stronger than you may think. I would clean it up though. Hell what did you pay for it 600-700 bux, cant beat that with the swap done. The stupid thing would be to blow it up just to swap it for a heavier H series. You should consider boosting it. Whats wrong with swapping out your older steering wheel for a newer one. The wheels that originally came in the cars feel like flimsy sponge doughnuts. Mines swapped for a 1991 Ef steering and everyone likes it. Its beefier, but still honda. Welcome to the board....later.

I just found this on a website its not much but its something, not sure if its correct or not....

D15A3 (from the Si) 219 lbs.
EW1 (from the 1500 Std) 208 lbs.
1300 (from the HF) 195 lbs.
D16A1 (from the Integra) 248 lbs.
B16 (the VTEC) 309 lbs

Yeah, I guess swapping the wheel isnt too bad.. lol... Yeah it was his car. The swap was done pretty well.. Found and fixed a few probs with it.

Idled at 2K RPM (Distributor needed adjusted) Still idles a lil high, but has a bad vac leak from the brake booster so that will prob fix it.
The fuel pump regulator was CLOSED!! lol and the lines were kinked.
Thanks for the info on the weight , guess I was being stupid and didn't take that into consideration... Typical me rushing into decisions. He claims that the engine was rebuilt and only has 35K but that is untrue as it leaks oil from the valve cover gasket, and who rebuilds the engine w/o replacing all gaskets!

I have given thought to boosting it, I had a Sentra SE-R that I boosted a few years ago and I might do it w/ this.

FYI yeah I paid $700 for it, a lil steep but what civic isn't in Florida lol...

Oh yeah they did a pretty good job w/ the swap and some of the smaller details, but there is still LOTS of stuff to fix that they messed up w/ the swap.. All things considered though they did a good job for a backyard swap...

$700 is steep?? Damn I should move to Florida. $700 for a body in that well conditions with a swap is sweet! I was gonna sell my CRX AFTER the wreck with front end damage for $1,500. Sounds like you got hooked up buddy.

O YA! AND I'm in cali where the no rust clean rex's roam free and happy threw out the land.

Yeah, maybe I have been outta the import game for too long lol and now $700 seems high to me, but seems like aI got a decent deal... So where can I find an aftermarket catback for the 86 Civic... I can find all kinds of headers for the D16 but I am having a hard time finding the catback for the shell...

Damn that's harsh. He's put a lot of work into that car, and if I were him, I'd probably be a bit upset if I saw all this. If you don't like it so much, why did you buy it? You are going to take someone's hard work and try to blow the motor, just to start it all over? You would have been better off just buying a stock one, then do all your own work to it. Well, good luck with it anyway.

Oh and if anything, if you are just going to swap in another motor, at least don't run the balls off of the one in there, sell it or something.

There is tons of aftermarket support for the dohc d16! You need to find you a jdm shop that can accomidate your needs. Try searching for "ZC" parts, I know of quite a few aftermarket companies that offer alot for them. Goodluck with the car, looks good so far. Oh and you got a steal for a car in that good of condition, the swap alone it worth your money.
