Hey guys, how's it going? Long time lurker, first time poster, you know the kind.

Anyway, I thought I'd better introduce myself. I'm Ryan, from New Zealand. Pleasure to meet you, and all that! B) I've always been into my Hondas, having owned several over the years. My favourite of my past Hondas was my 1990 EF9 Civic SiR-II (JDM). I had that car for five years, and it was a fun car. Here's a picture:

Eventually I decided I was tired of owning old cars, without anything nice, and practicaly overnight I sold the EF9 and the two EF CRXs I also had at the time, and bought a CL1 Torneo Euro R. However, it wasn't long before I spotted what would become my pride and joy - a tidy and original 1986 E-AT Civic Si F1 Special Edition. Being JDM it came equiped from factory with a DOHC ZC motor, manual transmission, air conditioning, a removable sun/moon roof, and F1 edition extras all there - wheels, trim stripe, seat embroidery, and steering wheel etc. That was almost four years ago, and since then I've done a number of things to it. Most of it is either routine maintenance or mechical refreshment, but there have been a few mods along the way as well. Here are a few photos of it:

It's had the front repainted since those photos. I don't have many good shots of it unfortunately, I need to take some more:

And a couple of others you might find interesting:

That's 175,000km traveled, which is about 109,000 miles. It's not much higher than that now.

As always there are many ongoing plans for the car! I just ordered some extended top hats off Cheddas Auto so I can bring the ride height down a bit without spoiling the suspension, and have got some new shocks ready to go in as well. In a few months it's going into Honda for a big freshen up - new cam belt, water pump, clutch, and pretty much any other belts and seals that need doing. It won't be cheap but I don't care, I don't plan to get rid of it any time in the foreseeable future!

Hope you enjoyed looking - see you around!

Thanks guys :)

They're quite different cars, in terms of power especially. The 1990 Civic (EF9) had a B16A in it and an LSD transmission, and I'd done intake, headers and exhaust for a little extra power. The AT is no slouch with about 130hp from the factory ZC in an 890kg (1960lb) car - I've done headers and exhaust in that too and it drives great, sneaky quick for an old Civic and surprises quite a few people with how well it goes, but the main difference is VTEC. Once you've got into 3rd gear, the ZC in the AT starts to run out of puff a little and isn't accelerating as hard as the EF9 did, having the advantage of VTEC for the extra top end.

The EF9 also had electric windows and mirrors, newer interior, better suspension etc and just felt more modern - which it was really. On the other hand there are more EF9s around (here anyway, I know North America didn't get them) than there are ATs - you can wait a long time to see a factory JDM AT Civic Si come up for sale at all, let alone a tidy well looked after example, and I never see another one on the road. It's not as though EF9s are everywhere, but there are a lot less ATs around, and I quite like having a car that is fairly rare now. It's that much more exclusive than my old EF9 was. If you go to a Honda track day there's a good chance you'll see an EF9 or two, but not an AT, although a couple of examples have popped up recently, most notably Nigel's beautiful Kanjo style AT, which looks fantastic. Still not an F1 edition though! ;)

The AT is a lot of fun and I love having it. It's more quirky than the EF9 and is more of an underdog, without the EF9's well known history. We of course know that AT Civics were very successful race cars in Japan, but that history is less well known than with the EF9. Incidentally, I've also got a Tamiya model Group A Civic:

. . . and an AT Civic keyring, haha:

Anyone interested in seeing a build thread on this car? It wouldn't be a build thread as such as there are no major plans for it, no motor swaps, no track inspired updates or anything like that and it will probably continue to look much as it does now, apart from being a bit lower. It would mainly be a thread for posting up pictures of it in different settings, out for a cruise, doing little jobs on it etc, just as I do in another forum (a local one).

Thoughts?

Hey there awesome ride! I would like to see a build thread, these cars are so rare I just enjoy seeing all 3G civic related content  :D

I just bought my first car a few weeks ago and it happens to be a 1986 Civic Si, doesn't look no where as clean as yours but I hope to get it there sometime soon!
