On one of my 86 "si"s there maybe a trans problem. I jackup the front end so that both wheels are off the ground. Then grab one tire and spin it clock wise, well the other tire does nothing. Switch sides and i get the same thing no movement from other tire. Is there a problem with the trans or, do i have a aftermarket lsd of some kind? So i then start the car, still off the ground. Put it in 1st gear and only one tire spins. I force the spinning tire to stop, then the other tire kicks in and starts to spin. What is the deal, anyone seen this before? I just bought the car 2 weeks ago. Havent had it on the road yet, but drives fine in my driveway. And will go through all the gears just fine. What do you guys think??

Sounds normal to me?
I agree. The differential is differentiating...

ok let me add this, in another post about lsd transmissions. It states to lift the frontend up and spin one tire. If the other spins opposite direction then trans is normal "Stock". Meaning that both tires should be moving at the same time. So i checked this out on my other 86 "si" and 87 "si". And both tires move at the same time, one going in the opposite direction than the one im spinning. 2 out of 3 move like it says it should for a stock trans. But why is the 3rd si not doing the same thing?

I'll bet that when only the one wheel spun by hand it was in neutral and not in gear, correct? It was probably just spinning the mainshaft in the tranny (in neutral) instead of the other wheel because it had less friction. If you do it again and put it in gear I bet the other wheel will spin opposite this time.

If you had an LSD they would both spin in the same direction.

You can test the transmission by jacking up the front of the vehicle so that both wheels are off the ground. Next duct tape 1 cat to each front wheel. Put the vehicle in first gear and rev to 2500 rpm. Both cat tails should spin in the same direction. When the screeching dies down, lower one side so one tire touches the ground. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! These cats will be pissed. Dizzy, but pissed. Now, Gently accelerate to 750 rpm. Only one cat should spin. Then you and your furry friends can be reassured your tranny is fine. Oh, the cats will only be pissed until dinner time.
