My 87 DX had a bad alternator once but the trouble was it got hit like 8 times. Header panel smashed, EVERY panel on the car dented and/or cracked. Floor and wells were rusty so when the lower control arm or ball joint broke and ripped the axle out of the tranny at 60 mph on I- 795 i figured it was time to retire the old girl and put her out to pasture. Good motor at 237k on it and no smooking or burning oil.

Not the worst, but the most aggravating was trying to find an ignition module for my HF. I ended up paying $80 for a used beat up one from all the way in Virginia(I live in Florida). I had to wait 3 weeks with no CRX. I looked all over the place here for that part and nobody had it for the HF, unless I was willing to pay Honda for it.

Sometime in Sept/Oct I blew the motor in the Bulldog by shifting into 2nd gear doing 120km/h on the freeway... over-revved the motor, exploded the alternator belt, and ruined compression in 3 of 4 cylinders..... but it didn't die!

I have since swapped the motor of course, and need to learn how to shift rolleyes.gif

Cheers,
Mark

Oh, and my tranny is leaking oil.

and to hi-jack for just a second, how do you know when the tranny is low on fluid, will the gears grind? Will it make some horrible noise?

5th gear will die, then the diff will go. at least that's what happened to me

as for engine horror stories, just a head gasket that failed 5, maybe 6 times. can't remember exactly how many it was, it's a pain in the ass to change with a 2G tho.
