Well I'm going to be swapping the interior door panels from my 87 junker to my good 84 dd junker. I would swap the doors but rust is an issue that I don't want to deal with. My question is what all is involved in the swap? I know that a few here have done it but I haven't seen what all it takes. And is there a completed pic that I can see with the panel off so I know that needs to be cut and added.

Thanks for that pic but I am looking for a pic of an 84-85 with the guts swapped for an 86-87 panel. I hope that makes it more clear for what I am looking for.

I am doing the opposite, by putting 86-87 Si panels on my 85. RFL85CRXSI has done the swap before and I will be picking his brain on this subject soon.

I am doing the same thing as you Sgt. I have panels for an 87 that I am putting in my 84.

I thought the panels were different? If there is a way ,I didn't know of it . I just changed my 85 si doors to 87 dx doors.. I tried to change the panels at first but then realized they wouldn't fit..

I can't imagine how you can do it without a lot of surgery, a lot of stuff is in different places, most obviously the door handle.

Yeah I figured that sad.gif . But without driving hundreds of miles I think that surgery would be my best option. And besides it gives me a reason to get me a welder.

I don't think you need a welder. RFL85CRXSI really needs to chime in. He said he did the swap in about an hour and that it wasn't really hard. I have everything needed to do the swap, just need to wait until the car is painted to do it.

I can't be sure, but most likely the only difference would be the brackets under the skins. Invest some time and pull both skins off and you'll know for sure. They don't take long to remove, 15 min at most.

Thought that I would update this topic. Today I did the pass side and its actually a whole lot easer that it looks. You only have to cut for the top half of the door handle and add 2 holes the other 3 line up. I will get pics when I do the drivers side.
