i ate it. *buurp* sorry

I race SCCA autocross and would like to add a side exit exhaust. According to Kakabox, Scott and other entries a side exit can be made to come in below 90db, I think SCCA requires below 93 db for noise levels. Before I embark in this effort I want to be sure I will end up with a legal exhaust. My car had an old Magnaflow catback system on it that was rusted out. The cat is the original stock unit and looks clean to me on the inside. I put on a 2.25-inch cat back with a dynomax single in dual out muffler in the stock arrangement with a stock resonator included (non-mandrel bends since no one in my town seems to have that technology). But I noticed a decrease in power from my stock engine. I have a Lightspeed header too. I want to put a Magnaflow muffler and side exit on my car using 2.25-inch tubing mandrel bent like Kakabox used. But I think it was a little loud after reading the description. Kaka- how does the Powerstick work for power and sound? ALso some people note a 2-inch exhaust may lower the sound. Do I need a resonator too? Any other muffler recommendations out there? Good racing mufflers run about $200-$300, I may have to go that route to get a good system.

Thanks.

Yet again Scott, you have all the answers

No. All the answers are in the Kakabox build thread.

I had a 2.25 catback magnaflow straight through exhaust and came out with only 88 Db in a 1.9l DOHC. So i think you might be ok.

Thanks for the input guys, i will have to make some muffler choices now. It sounds like it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Give Borla a shot. They make very nice stainless mufflers. I would go with 2 inch tubing, this should give you more bottom end to mid range power which is what you need for auto cross.

Exactly what he said. Im running a 2" on my 3G right now with a cherry bomb tip and its pretty low key too. I think im running max 70 Db.

If your looking for quality go magnaflow stainless unploished oval mufflers, if you want performance and a nice look, you could always use a megan muffler, but if your going side exit, a 2 foot thrush or even a magnaflow glasspack should make it pretty quite. I did 2.5 on my car and it was overkill, but in my opinion your not going to see much gain unless you change the piping from the 2-1 section back.

I was mainly going for price tongue.gif out here an OEM exhaust is $300 to buy from a store and i paid $225 for just piping and $20 for the cherry bomb.
