reminds me of when i stayed in eastern wa for awhile, everyone it seemed like had a huge brushgaurd on there car, for fear that a deer or elk would jump out in front of them and total it which i guess happens all the time over there..kinda funny seeing a geo metro driving around with a 150+ lb. brushgaurd on the frontend lol

The Begining
So..In july sometime I traded my 1978 Chevy Blazer w/ a 6 in. lift, 35" BFG Mud terrain Tires, 350 c.i. Motor with a edelbrock thunder series 850 cfm carb and RV cam for a 1985 CRX Si. I came across it bored at work one day on a craigslist add that said it had a B18 swap in it, and wanted only 850 or trade for a 4x4. I thought it was to good to be true, considering these cars with those swaps i dont see for any less than $1,500. There wasn't very many details on the website, so i decided to call him and set up a meeting. He said he was interested in my blazer, as i was his car. I took the 80 mile trip and checked out the car first, it was actually in pretty solid shape. Not to many dents or dings, paint was in better shape than my blazers (primered black), interior was in fair shape, door panels were unmolested. Seemed like a fair trade to me if the car ran. The car was stored at his grandma's house and so i had to wait for him to get there to try and test drive it. When he got there he busted me some bad news. First, it had no dizzy on it, and the coil was missing. He said it ran when he parked it and all it needed was those parts installed, and he had all the peices there to get it going for me. he had a dizzy off a junkyard teg, and a accel super coil to install on it. He had like 3 other integra's stored there at his g-ma's house and said he was going to use the crx for a drag car but lost interest in it after awhile. He said someone broke into the car, stole the stereo, got underneath the hood and stole the dizzy, coil, and the dipstick (i guess it was some aftermarket one that had a piston top). The next day i brang my blazer down and brang a trailer with another pickup and did the strait trade across. Took her home, put on the parts he gave me and sure enough he was right, the car fired right up on two year old gas even. I took her for a test drive and found out that fifth gear was toast, and the brakes were spongy as shit sad.gif. I promptly went out and bought a tune up for the car, and drained the gas. When talkin to some of the fellas down at the local auto parts store, i found out that the motor i had in my car was in fact a D16A1 not a B18??...kind of dissapointing, but o well can still get good power out of a D16 power plant. After i got all done putting the tune up on, the water pump started dripping water out. I Had a backyard mechanic put in a water pump for me, and in the progress fucked up my cam timing im assuming because when i got it back it didn't want to idle at all, and gets horrible gas milage. I fucked with it enough to finally get it to idle somewhat. I just pretty much advanced my timing as far as it would go and turned up my idle a little bit. I know im prolly not supposed to run my car around with the cam timing fucked up but it is my only car that works somewhat. My wife just totalled my 03 eclipse, and the shift linkage is fucked up in my 96 dodge neon, so its up to the ol' reliable honda to take us around. I've been doing lil things here and there to make it look a lil better, but nothing to make it run any better cause of the lack of money. Got laid off a couple months ago, and side work is sparse right now and with a wife and new baby with bills to pay i dont got awhole lot of extra money to spend on the ol' car, and trust me my cars and the #1 thing i spend my money on if i got any extra. This will be a vary slow work in progress unless i get a job here soon and get some real cash flow coming in. O ya, the car got impounded 3 or 4 weeks ago when i was taking my wife to the hospital because the cops caught me driving with a suspended lisence. The tow company ripped the fart can off my car, and now just has a strait pipe.

Plans For It: Get The cam & spark timing right, Fix the brakes, Dress Up The Motor A Little, Nicer Stereo System, Get some decent 14 or 15" wheels, and eventually paint gloss black...make it a decent daily driver
Needed Parts: Windshield, Fuel Filter, Ash tray & Random Interior Peices, Driver Side Door and Rear Quarter Panel Plastics, Master Cylinder, 5th Gear from a doner Teg or Accord, Clutch Kit, Front End Alignment w/ New Bearings & Tie Rod Ends, New Shocks/Struts, Hood Hinges, Recessed headlights, Plus many more random peices
Problems With It: Doesn't Idle Very well at all, Busted Windshield, Shitty Suspension Components, Needs Some Massive TLC!!!

Could someone explain to me the difference of all these things? The suspension in my front end is shot as shit, and need to replace some of it but was wondering what parts and peices i had to buy. i got a 85 Si, with im assuming stock suspension...

Desperatly Needing Answers

So about a week and a half ago my wife and i were on our way to get some groceries and it was storming out pretty bad. To make a real long story short, my wife was driving and we hydroplaned and my 03 eclipse gt rolled, smashing down the drivers side roof on top of her breaking her neck and breaking her water at the same time. She was 36 weeks pregnant at the time. She broke her neck in 6 different places, shattering 2 of her vertabres and almost completely severing her spinal cord. She was 2 sheets of paper away from being a parapolegic for the rest of here life. Fortunatly we have some amazing doctors in a hospital 3 hours away and she is going to be just fine with time. My new baby girl is still in the hospital for now, but she is going to be ok and coming home real soon. She was pre-me mind you, but still 5 lbs 10 oz. so not to small. My wife has to wear a neck brace for at least 6 weeks, and depending on how she heals that might be it. We all were very lucky to say the least, i came out un-injured. Wow..i made that short storyawfully long sorry guys. Anyways, my neon's tranny is fucked up and is going to cost a good chunk of money to fix which is something i dont have alot of right now, just got laid off my new job and not enough hours for overtime. So now all i have left is my crx. It has not been running very well for me ever since i got it, and have asked soem questions on here before but very few were answered so maybe yall can find it in your time and hearts to give a little insight for me now considering the situation. FYI i have VERY slow internet and its pretty hard for me to do the search thing on the site cause of how long it takes to load a site, and have googled quite a bit too. If ya got some links that could answer my questions or just some answers they are all really appreciated.

(I got some pretty stupid questions some of yall might think, sorry)
(I have a browntop d16a1 swap in a 85 Si, swap was done when i got the car)

1. Could find the answer real easy on google i bet but since im here might as well ask. I got the battery on the charger right now, and was just curious on what the dif was between a maintenance free deep cycle and a conventional low maintenance battery was.

2. How do i check my gear oil level

3. I Have no fifth gear, my buddy has a teg with the same problem with the same m&t combo, is that a common problem with this setup?

4. Someone did a 86-87 crx headlight swap (Non-recessed) and did the wiring pretty ghetto. I have no hi beams, or maybe no low beams not real sure. My dash always says its on high beams and it wont change with the flick of the blinker. The rollover switch turns on everything but my headlights, which are on a seperate toggle switch. not sure why, but thats the way it was done when i got it i would like to hook it back up stock style to where there is no toggle switch and i have highs or lows. Any links or insight on this?

5. I took off a sensor on the right side of my intake manifold by what i beleive is the thermostat because the wires were hanging by a mere thread literatly and i tried sawdering it better to where there was a better connection. Shortly there after, my temp gauge constantly reads cold cold cold. My fan turns on when i turn my key over (had to ghetto-rig it this way because i dont have the money for the stock sensor unit to tell it to turn on when the vehicle gets hot). Even with the fan on constantly my gauge would still rise up, but now it doesnt. Could this sensor dealy be the reason why it reads cold all the time? im assuming when i fucked with it i might of disconnected it more or...somethin. What does that sensor do?

6. There is a vaccum hose disconnected, but plugged, on the top right side of the throttle body underneath the vaccum hose for the fuel pressure regulator. where does it go and does it have a significant purpose?

7. Looks like there sould be a sensor on the right right of the intke manifold too. But there isn't one there, or look like there is wiring for one. Which, or is, that sensor?

8. Brakes suck in this thing. The pedal is spongy as hell. I bled out the right side one but it didn't need much, but the passenger side one needed alot. I put more fluid in before and after the bleeding process. Took it for a spin down the road and the brakes got all spongy again. There is no apparent leak from what i can tell. Brakes actually do work if i pump them 5 or 6 times, but thats just another accident waiting to happen. I;m gussing it might be the slave cylinder, or the brake booster? The vacuum hose for it is hooked up.

9. When i first got it going it ran somewhat decent just needed to be timed it seemed like. I paid a fella to put in a water pump for me and after that it has ran like shit. I thought that maybe the cam timing might be off or something but i heard that if it was off by a tooth it prolly wouldn't even run. I have put a few hours in the motor tinkering trying to get it to idle right and i think i might of finally got it somewhat. It would always die at stop signs, and pretty much whenever i pushed in the clutch it would die. I got it now to wear it mostly doesnt die at stop signs and it doesn't idle extremely high. Im pretty sure my timing is as advanced as it will go though and it bogs down on me still. Im sure there is a common problem out there with these motors where it bogs down and wantsw to die when it gets warm...anyone have that answer?

10. When i get ahold of a timing light, what should the spark timing be set at?

11. The clutch doesn;t disengauge until it the pedal is almost all the way up. I see the adjuster dealy on the tranny where the cable goes in there. Which way do i turn the dial adjuster to make it to where is disengauge closer to the floor rather than up top. I could play with it a bunch i guess and try to figure it out but i figure i would just ask to make it easier on me.

(A few Internet buying stuff questions)

12. I dont have a dipstick, just a bolt in there so no blow back comes out. I use my buddys teg dip stick to check mine now and then and it doesnt leak oil and has been good every time i checked it since i changed the oil. No parts store around here can order me one for it they say, and there is no tegs that gen close buy in a j-yard to buy one off of. Is there a site i can go to to buy a stock one, or a aftermarket one? the napa universal ones dont work very well for me...

13. Need some new battery terminals, cheap ones online anywhere? There pretty cheap in a parts store i know, but im always lookin for a beter deal.

14. Is there clear side marker lights (the ones closest to the headlight) out on the net anywhere? or did the jdm/edm models have those? i have mismatched ones right now and it looks kind of funny. I know they dont make many or any aftermarket taillights for these things, but what about headlights too? There any cool halo ones or anything like that?

15. Is there a site where i can buy emblems? I need a crx one for the hatch, and would like to find one that says DOHC or like 1.6l...coulda swore i've seen em a time or two on this site on other peoples 1st gens.

16. My sinroof motor is pretty slow. Where is it located at, and would lubing up any parts of it make it run more efficiently?

17. I want to hook up a cd player in here, but only got a bunch of wires to look at. I could probly figure out on my own what the constant power wire, fusible power wire, ground and FL/FR neg and pos wires are but it would take alot of time to figure it all out since stock wiring can never be as easy as a aftermarket cd players color coded wires are. Anyone got a wiring diagram out there for the stock wires on a 1st gen?


Thanks in advance for any and all questions answered or advice. I would go buy a book for the teg and for my rex to figure out all the wiring and motor issues but as i said before am lacking money and am really broke after this whole wreck happened and i had to camp out in the hospital for a week. I just bought a tower from my brother..my landlords across the driveway have wireless internet and they have a belkins router..i bought a belkins usb device, the best kind they had at the store (there was 3 different types, i bought the one with the supposed fastest speed etc.) and i receive little to no signal..even when i do have one bar i cannot access the internet, maybe the signal is too weak? anyways, what peice of hardware is out there that i can purchase to strengthen my signal? i do not have phone or cable hooked up in my appartment if that helps at all explaining anything...i was thinkin there might be some kind of waypoint router out there, google does almost nothing for me on this topic..thanks for any and all advice on this in advance
