pay shipping both ways with someone, I think I might even have a spare... but it's 600 miles away and I won't be there for another two weeks, someone has to have a spare that they'd at least sell you for the price of a combo meal.

ok so it says the tw sensor, is that the sensor that the temp gauge hooks to or the one of the fan sensors?

Just had a problem like this with a friends Si hatch. The owner of the car and I bolth had head aches from trying to figure this one out. The problem had been intermitantly happening over about a two month period. Running like crap and no PGM-FI light. We swapped out the distributor, ecu, main relay, ignition switch, coil, fuel injectors, throttle body, map sensor, plugs/wires and the car was still running like crap.
I told my other friend who has been a Honda mechanic of 20+ years what was happening and what we had replaced. I think it took him 2 sceonds to ask if we had replaced the coolant temp sensor (the one with two wires)? As soon as we did that the car started easier than I have ever heard and never skipped a beat. It seems that the sensor would periododically tell the ecu that the engine was as cold as it can get -40 and would compensate by adding a lot more fuel into the mix causing it to flood the engine untill it would bog down a die.

Thanks that is the sensor I was leaning toward. I did alot of reading and research in the FSM and it was leading me to this sensor. Would the car run fine and then you go say into Wal-Mart or some place for lunch and then not want to start? I ask because Its been running fine for the past week and then today it did it again and left me stranded for a bit, I wiggled some wires and changed the coil with the one I keep in the car. It slowly came to life. Dont think that was the problem. Mine will run like crap until the PGM-FI light comes on with a cough then once that light is on the car will run great. Without the light....well its 50/50
The TW sensor do I have to buy it from Honda or is it available aftermarket?

Unfortunately the TW sensor is no longer available from honda for the EW or D15A engines.
However I found several after market ones over at Rockauto.com. Just make sure you get the one with the two small pins in the plastic plug. The large single terminal one is for the gauge on the dash. They are reasonably priced from $11-30.
I'm also looking into using one from a later Honda that isn't discontinued yet but want to make sure it will work before dropping $50+ on a new one. I prefer factory Honda parts when ever posible even if they are for a different car.

On the coil, if multiple coils show the same symptoms, it is time to trace/check/replace your wiring. You likely have a chafed+grounding or internally fractured signal wire.
Have you got any way of checking your fuel pressure? A bad pressure regulator can cause these symptoms. Tap the regulator with a screwdriver and see if the symptoms change.
Check for vacuum leaks at the distributor pots. If you don't have a vacuum pump, disconnect and plug the lies, crank the distributor to full advance and see if it idles. (DON'T DRIVE IT THIS WAY, this is just a general check if the whole vacuum advance system may be the issue)

You can get a TW sensor for an 86-89 Integra engine if you can't find the one for your Si. It should be the same or you can get them to cross reference. I had an issue with the engine bumping and grinding when cold and went through a lot of grief changing and checking components. I n the end it was a loose connection at the TPS sensor on the throttle body. Runs perfect again. I have a D16A1but much of the components are similar. Don't know if this of value for you. JS
