The first Monte Carlo Rally flagged off. It was won a week later by Henri Rougier driving a Tucat-Mery.

Wow, didn't realize just how exposed he was. I kind of thought the car used a monocoque capsule. But he's barely got a roll cage.

There was bodywork around the driver......but not much.......A 1/8" thick piece of fibreglass won't help much in a crash!
Must.....go......racing.......

Well, yeah. I know there was bodywork That's why I thought he had a monocoque. Instead he's got all but nothing!
I don't know if I'd have the stones to compete in modern F1, let alone climb into that death trap. >_<

Don't know who the "crazy young guy" is but that frame is some sort of Formula V (as in aircooled VW) and not any kind of F1. But going back to the Tyrell pictured earlier, yes it took large stones to climb into one of those death traps. Let's all thank Jackie Stewart for his insistance upon safety inprovements that have made F1 as relatively safe as it is today.
Think back to the crash that Kubisa had at Canada or the flight Webber took in Spain and you know that F1 cars are a lot more protective than they used to be. 20 years ago, both of those crashes would ahve been fatal.
