I still want a 3g CF hood.

I too would like a 3g CF hood. ZC bump is perferable but not necessary. Dry CF is the way to go.

Thank you Marcus for your efforts and perseverance.

Here's what I would suggest for manufacturing process, having been around a carbon shop for about 7 years.

Use only the outer mould. Lay up a layer of carbon, a layer of 1/4' honeycomb and another layer of carbon. Use bond in aluminum plugs with tapped holes where the hinges bolt up. The plugs would be identical to how the chassis hard points are bonded into carbon race car tubs.......ask your Atlantic racing buddy, he'll know what I mean.

To me this would be a very inexpensive and simple process. You would have to autoclave the hood with this method though and that might make it expensive.

Just my thoughts on it......I am by no means a carbon expert, just someone who's spent a lot of time around real race cars and a certified carbon fibre tub repair facility.

Rob
Must.....go......racing.......

All these replies are great. I think we can start a collection!!!!

We'll just start taking order and whatever gets to 10 pieces first wins. Sounds like it will be the zc one

Marcus

Marcus,

How's this looking? Do we have 10 people yet for any of the 1g hoods? I don't care which one as long as it's a one piece hood.

can anyone confirm if the 3g hatch and the 3g sedan have interchangable hoods? if this is the case, i think we might have enough interest to get that started. if not, then i guess us sedan guys are S.O.L. again! hahaha.

I'd be interested in the 1 piece cf zc hood Mr. D. Seems like eliminating the header panel woes I've read about is the way to go for this newbie owner of an 1985 crx needing a hood transplant. To quote my kids "Are we there yet?"

Kindly advise as to how to proceed.

Best regards,

Elliot

Count me in for my 87 Rex. Marcus, we spoke before about this a while back.

I'm in SoCal a lot and can just pick it up in RSM. How do I pay now, Marcus? If I am one of the 'top 10' (one piece, ZC style CF dry) then I would like to send the $$ now to get going on this. I would also like to check on the clear coat ahead of time to just have that done for any extra charge (need to know how this clear coat would last in AZ sun-or is it better not to treat it?)

Thanks.

Do you have a finished weight for the hood?

I'll take some pictures of my aluminum hood and get a weight on it. It's not pretty but it doesn't flap at 100mph on the track and was far cheaper to make than CF sounds. I don't have a metal break so the creases are not straight or smooth but with one, it could be far cleaner looking. Start with above ground pool wall aluminum, alulminum rivets and a $1.29 aluminum attic vent. Take a few hours, install hood pins, paint the top ghetto flat black, add some stickers for the rice look and go for a ride.

more pix of just the hood to come
